Hey guys,
My first post and I have a question that I couldn't find in the search function.
Here it is. I had a pool table set up last night in my basement. My ceiling is 7 ft from the floor and the table surface is 53" from the ceiling. Is there a production cue that will allow me to masse' or should I just cut off a house stick and try to weight it down properly? And what length of stick would be best?
Thanks,
Toddbow

No opinions? Thanks anyway. The guy that set up my table recommended a production cue, but I can't remember what it was called. We also thought it might be a little long to use in my basement. I was thinking maybe a 46" jump/break cue might work, perhaps I'll call the local cuemaker and get his opinion.

Don't go yet!

Your table 4.41 feet off the ground- sounds high. Was the guy who put it in too? Am I?

Piglet,
I have alot of faith in the guy that set up my table. The table surface sets at about 31" from the floor and 53" from the ceiling. 7 foot ceiling =84"-53"(slate to the ceiling) leaves 31" to the floor.
I'm babysitting the table for a friend that didn't have room in his house and although I haven't played much in the last couple of years I couldn't stand the thought of having an unplayable table in my home. The table is an 8' Brunswick and I put 860 Simonis cloth and brand new rails on it so I have a little money invested in it. After setting up the table we were playing around with a few shots and the first time I tried to masse' was when the ceiling interfered. I took my tape measure and tried to figure out a good length stick to use and he suggested one that I've forgotten. It's really no big deal but I found this site and thought maybe someone else had experienced this dilemna. I can call a guy named Gilbert and I'm sure he'll know what to do, as I miss my old jump/break cue that he made for me (stolen).

Why worry about masse? Kick balls and dont mess up your new Simonis. You should still be able to do normal jump shots as needed. Other than modifyed "curves" around balls, I cannot remember the last time I needed to masse with the cue directly in the air. Keep your table clean, and work on your kicks. IMO

Check out the TroubleShooter at www.billiardsexpress.com - comes in 24", 36", 42", and 48" lengths. These are weighted to give a full-length cue "feel"; they don't have the awkward feel of a cut-down house stick. These run in the $30-35 price range depending on length. If you need a short stick, this is the way to go, IMO.

I second the opinion on the troubleshooter cues. My 36" incher feels pretty natural and it doubles as my 4 year olds "mess around cue". As short as he is and the stick is, he couldn't dig out my cloth if he tried.

I have the same problem in my basement. I had Schuler make me a masse cue, which is 46". The shaft has a house cue taper. The tip is about 12.5mm. 3 or 4 inches up the shaft, it is about 15mm. The ferrule is about 1/3 the size of a normal ferrule.

Even if I didn't have a short ceiling, I would recommend one of these. You can safely masse into the slate without fear of damaging your cue, due to the house cue taper.

I have three shafts and two butts (19oz and 25oz). The 25oz is for the power masse shots.

If you watched the Trick Shot Magic, I used the 19oz masse cue for all of my masse shots, but I used the 25oz one for one of them. It was the shot where all of the balls were lined up down the center of the table (the long ways), and I masse the cue ball all the way down and around the line, making a ball in the corner. Unfortunately I missed it :( but Mike Massey made it. There is a picture of him making it on my website (www.andysegal.com).

If you (or anyone) would like me to give you the contact information for getting one of these cues, please let me know (no, I don't get kick backs - I just think they are great masse cues).
