8 ball question

While playing a game today at the bar we had a very cool shot happen however I am curious as to if it was a legal shot or not.

We are playing 8 ball but not to call out shots except for the 8 ball (Last shot).

Player 1 has only the 8 ball left on the table, and Player 2 has two balls left on the table.

One of the balls in next to the corner pocket on the far rail and the 8 ball is about 10 inches towards the middle of the table but up against the side rail.

Player 2 hits his ball into the corner pocket and then as a side effect the cue ball then hits the 8 ball and the 8 ball then rolls all the way down to the other corner pocket on same side of the table. Now the player then calls the 8 ball to go into the corner pocket as the 8 ball is on the way to the pocket.

Is this a legal play for calling the 8 ball a winning shot?

Hi,

No it is not, for 2 reasons:

- You cannot pot your last solid or stripe ball and the 8-ball in 1 shot, the 8 alwas has to be a seperate shot.

- You have to call the 8 before you shoot it, not when it is rolling.

If player 2 pots the 8-ball in the shot described he has lost the game.
