one pocket any one?

I just came back from a 6 month break from pool. Work gets in the way sometimes. I came back and am playing much smarter and better patterns in all my games. I put my first 3 pack together on a 9ft diamond pro playing 9 ball. My banks game and one pocket game are miles better than they were. The whole time I was not able to pick up a cue all I did is watch my dvds of the pros playing those games. Now my trouble is when I get to a bar table and play 8 ball I cant run out. I used to run out quite a few time in a 4 hour practice session. Probally about 20% of the time. have even broke and run 3 to 4 times in a row if I was in stroke. I am not shooting bad just cant get and 8 ball run many 2 inning games just no run out I am at a loss as to why all my other games are way better but my 8 ball game worse. Does this happen where at times you play one game better than the other. I seem to just get out of line or bobble the key shot in the run out. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

8 ball and 9 ball are two very different games, requiring different skill sets. Consider that an 8 ball game has nearly twice as many balls on the table, half of which are not potential targets, but potential blockers. On a smaller playing field like a bar table, things become even more crowded than on a 9 footer. And 9 ball dictates the pattern you will be working. 8 ball requires you to evaluate the entire table, and determine the best pattern if you are going to run out...or even if a run out is your best option. Remember, the goal isn't necessarily to run out...it's to win the game. Learning to read the layout, and plan your win pattern is a whole different animal in 8 ball.
