9 Ball Break?

I've suffered for years with low back pain and because of that my 9 ball break is about 50% of what it used to be. I just can't put all of my energy into the break stroke without aggravating my low back.

I've tried different strokes and different break cues looking for some help with my break. ESPN broadcast a match recently with Xiao-Ting Pan vs Ga-Young Kim and both of those ladies are small in size, but they have huge breaks. Especially Xiao-Ting Pan who is also the smaller of the two. I watched Xiao-Ting Pan's most unusual break stroke where she pulls her break cue back and up in the air (high in the air) before she follows through. When she follows through everything levels out and she creates a lot of power.

I played my weekly 9 ball league last night (race to 9 with no handicaps) and I tried using the stroke that Xiao-Ting Pan uses and i've never broke the balls better. I thought i'd give it a try and it works for me. My breaks were much more powerful with control of the cue ball than with the stroke i'd been using.

Pool is a game that you never stop learning. I improved my 9 ball break by watching a 26 year old Chinese lady who can't speak English. Xiao-Ting Pan is one of the strongest female players i've seen in a long time and the ladies at the top need to make room for her. She's the real thing.......
