9 Ball End Game Dilemma

TITLE WRONG - SHOULD BE 8 BALL


Similar to Blackcats thead below, I was presented with the following situation last week playing 8 ball with a very good player. I am stripes and he is on the 8 as shown below. No three foul rule in effect. I have BIH.

We traded safeties back and forth for a while with me gently nudging the 10 and leaving him hooked. He would then intentionally foul and give me BIH again. We finally called it a stalemate and quit.

Has anybody got any other ideas?

When he is about to take an intentional foul, yell "DICK CHENEY FOR PREZ IN 2008!!!!", he just might get startled and hit it too hard, knocking the 8 in. Otherwise, yea, without the 3-foul rule, this is a stalemate.

One possibility is to thin the ten sending the cueball to the head of the table but near the same long rail the balls are on. Then if you get intentional ball in hand again, bank the ten into the opposite corner.

This, imo, is the best option. But if you're not comfortable with the ball-in-hand bank, keep thinning the ten nudging it away from the 8 making sure it stays within a ball's width of the cushion (so he can't kick behind it). Eventually he'll either kick at the 8 hoping to leave you tough or the 10 will move far enough to play it into the upper right corner pocket.

Is the 8 frozen to the rail? Better if it is, because that makes it tougher for him to roll the cueball in behind the 8. Avoiding this is one reason I suggest staying close to the long rail the balls are on.
