(The penalty for manslaughter in La. is 0-40 years at hard labor.
I don't know the people involved. They could be thugs, or decent folks who just got hot and made a lapse of judgment. No dispute is worth even one year in prison.... And, while this argument could have been over anything non-pool-related, stories like this one just reinforce pool's shady image.)
Jefferson Parish authorities have arrested a man they say threw a single punch that took the life of 40-year-old Andan Anwar Wednesday morning during a fight over a pool table at a Metairie sports bar.
Aaron Ullrich, 37, was arrested on a manslaughter charge after an autopsy determined that Anwar died as a result of a blow to the head, according to Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the sheriff's office.
Anwar and a man identified as Todd Garvin, 41, became involved in a fight over the availability of a pool table at J.R.'s Sports Bar at 7001 Veterans Blvd. about 4:20 a.m., Fortunato said. As Garvin continued arguing with Anwar, witnesses said Ullrich walked up and punched Anwar one time in the jaw, knocking him to the floor, Fortunato said. Ullrich and Gavin then left the bar.
Ullrich was taken into custody a short time later and, according to Fortunato, admitted to punching Anwar.
