OK. I left Gabe Owen, the eventual winner, out of my list of the final 4.
And Mike's name is spelled Surber. Reports so far haven't given Mike the recognition he deserves. He lost only one match after knocking off Parica, Eric Moore, Dave Bollman, Jeremy Jones, and Nick Varner.
When it got down to the last 4, the consensus was that Scott Frost would take it all. But, in probably the best match Thursday, Gabe edged out Scott 3-2.
The final match could have gone either way. Good play early was followed by some excruciatingly bad mistakes in the last 2 games---scratches in the pocket and poor choice of shots. But Gabe hung on and did what he had to do.
Maybe Mike got a little worn out. He (and his buddy Glenn Kelly) face the unenviable job of returning to Biloxi to see what they have left. Mike had a casino job. Both the job and the casino are gone now.
And the 9-ball started. I don't think they filled the 96-player field---maybe 85.
Keith is not here, nor Johnny Archer, Alex, Buddy Hall.
In early matches, Earl Strickland lost to Rob Saez; young Brandon Shuff beat Jeremy Jones.
In late night action, Tony Watson and Tony Chohan played 2 sets and broke even.
Chohan has grown (physically) really big. And Wade Crane has added a few pounds too. Crane is promoting pool instruction that he has set up in Atlanta.
On the other hand, both Shannon Daulton and Jeremy Jones have slimmed down.
The lowest gas price I could find in Goldsboro was $3.09.
That's all
