A good break cue that isn't too thick?

Our cue rack has holes that are 1.5 inches in diameter (38mm). I'm a mediocre player interested in experimenting with a break cue on our 8' Connelly table. I recognize that it is dumb to pick a cue based on the rack, but it would be a lot more convenient if we could get a break cue that can fit neatly into the existing rack, which means it shouldn't be more than 1.5 inches thick at any place. What are your favorite break cues and how thick are they? In photos, at least, the break cues that I've looked at, e.g., McDermott Sledgehammer, look as thick as a caveman's club in a cartoon. I wouldn't be unhappy about spending up to $500 on this.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Have you considered modifying the cue rack? Maybe a rasp followed sand paper and some clear coat after. I’m not a wood worker but just an idea. Also maybe manufacturers will give you the specs so you don’t have to guess.

Honestly: Replace the rack. Then buy a decent break cue. However, this having been said...

Mezz cues are slim in the butt, but fantastic solid playing cues. Butt diameter is generally less than 1.25" I believe, which some folks don't like. But you'll likely spend a lot of money before you find a cue that hits and plays better.

Mezz Power Break Kai is a great mid-priced break cue. Call MezzUSA and ask - they'll tell you the exact diameter.

Of the top of my head I can't think of a single break cue that is anywhere near 1.5" thick. I may have not seen them all but I've seen A LOT.

Some are slightly thicker then the average playing cue but I would be amazed if you can find one that's even 1.4"
