Every Thursday, I play in a small local weekly 9ball tournament. Sometimes we get 8 players, sometimes 20.
All skill levels, no handicap, 9ft tables with 4.3 inch pockets.
We play in groups stage and then 2 from each group go into a single elimination round .
I’ve won it once and got second a few times, twice in a row for the last two weeks after a period of not passing the group stages.
Not bad for someone who hasn’t played in years and most of the players could be my sons…
All in all, I’m quite happy with how I play but still have the mental battle to overcome and get more wins…

Good job dude! I find the key in small tournaments like this is to not miss. Hope this little nugget helps you lift that trophy again.
Easier said than done… 😂
I missed 3 routine 8 balls in three frames of the final, handing the win to my opponent who is a very strong player, one of the best in the country but I played good and I had him, just couldn't finish…

Having fun is more important then winning, small Bar Tournaments use to be fun. Until they were invaded by people who only wantedto win. Cheater, Sharkers, and general POS.
It’s all fun
It’s a cheap tournament and most of the money goes to cover table time.
So it keeps the bad elements out.
It’s a friendly tournament but still there are good players and we take it seriously and we do want to win, not for the money but for the sport, the experience and practice.

You'll get back to making those. You've done it before and you'll do it again. Your brain just needs to get all the way back into playing shape. 😁

Finishing... That's an important concept that a lot of the novice players haven't learned yet. Like you said, easier said than done. But one of the key differences between a great player and a good player is the ability keep the pedal to the floor and finish. Run through the finish line and not to it. And I'm by no means mean any of that in any kind of disparaging manner towards you or your tournament performance. I just saw the word "finish" and it reminded me of that lesson and the many times paid the price by not following that rule.

Yeah, the killer instinct… lost it a bit over the years
