A Little Advice

I was chatting with a very nice guy on e-bay today who I am about to possibly purchase a cue from and he recommended I join the forums here and pose this question.

I'm taking up collections here in the office to buy a good friend and co-worker a nice Meucci cue as a gift. You see, he lost his father rather unexpectedly to post surgical complications. His dad plays fantasy football with us and we all know him and thought that buying Bob a cue (he's a fantastic pool player) might cheer him up a little. My question is two fold.

1. I love Meucci cues and we collected about $250 and always assumed that I would go with Meucci but hearing others talk about how one brand or another is preferred, I just wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction to a very nice cue for no more than $275?

2. I'd also love to inscribe Bob's dad's name on the cue somewhere. His name was West. I thought "Go West" would do. Any thoughts on how to get that done without jeopardizing the performance or value of the cue?

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Keep up the good work guys and girls...Merry Christmas.

Rusty,
What does your friend like to play with? If he currently plays with a Meucci, then it's a very nice gesture. But if not, "really good players" are hard to buy for. They need to play with the cue, like the hit, and also like the looks of the cue.
My 2 cents,
Gary

He currently does not own a cue that I know of. We play at work almost daily and he uses a house cue or whatever is available. Thanks.

Contact meucci, they might be able to fix you up. Otherwise, used meuccis are easy to find and good value for the money.

I have a nice older Mali I would be willing to ship you for considerably less, and it is a comparable brand in quality imo.

If he is used to a house cue, you may want to go with something stiffer than a Meucci, which would be just about anything else. Joss, Schuler, and Pechaur come to mind. The Mali mentioned above may not be a bad route either. Also, check ebay.
