A little help needed for a pool room in Calgary,Alberta

I will only give the city out but not the same of the establishment.

I play at least twice a week at this establishment and to be honest the business is not doing all that great. I have walked in their where the place empty but he keeps it open (bless his heart because I do not know if I could do it).

During a brain storming session with 2 other regular players . We would think that bringing in 4 diamond coin op tables would strum up great business. Right now no one in Calgary has one! (That I am aware of)

Here is now the problem why he cannot get one. With the current shape of the business and the economy in the toilet except for Fridays the place is dead. The current dealership in Calgary wants to put in the tables essentially Rent free. and do a 40/60 their way in profits on coin op profits. No way he can afford that.

I know their is a better solution. Right now going straight to Diamond is too expensive and buying through the dealership it too expensive

I know bringing in diamond would help
Does anyone have any Ideas?

ps. I no way He is aware of this post even though I am keeping this anonymous. If anyone is from the dealership and does not like my posting let me know and I will get a moderator to delete this thread.

I want to help this man not hurt his business. Let me know if this is a pipe dream as well.

Why not make it a tournament spot? Put up an A, B and C tourney every week. If he sells beer/liquor he may not make money on the tables, but he will make it on alcohol during the tourneys. He will then also snag a few guys that get hooked and will be there every day.

Do a little brain storming and make that hall "the spot" for the night every night. Maybe get a big screen tv and play sports. If he has a kitchen bring in the food. If he sells alcohol have a "cheap pitcher" night. If ya gotta do it and he has the room bring in a band and ignore the tables, but don't have it so loud that the people on the tables leave.

My guess is that he has a more complicated problem than would be solved by the addition of (4) Diamond coin-op tables. If he doesn't have the money for the tables then he is probably precariously close to a severe cash flow crisis.

One suggestion would be to find a successful room as nearby as possible , that is not a competitor, and get some advice on what the room needs. Then, armed with a plan he could try and raise the money to do what needs to be done.

If the Calgary economy is in the toilet (like most places) then think 'barter' and get some of those out of work pool players to come over and do some cleanup, painting etc. in exchange for ??? In other words, be creative in meeting the wants and needs of the community.

And God bless you and your buddies for trying to come up with a plan to save the hall.

Okay quick answer: two tourneys a week 1 sat at noon no masters

Beer and liquor is being served prices are pretty cheap/ Basic food: hot dogs, nachos. He has thought about a full kitchen.

The place is getting better as a whole, chairs places to sit etc...

The reason I am being mysterious is their is a few thing I can say that will give up the pool hall name in a micro second and I do not want it making back.

Thanks guys for the postings
