My shop is finally finished and I am going to add a 5x10 snooker table in addition to the 8' pool table. I know the recommended space around the table is 5'. Is that from the playing space or outside of table? With two tables do I need 5' between them?

IMO -
recommended mininum space between tables = 4'
recommended mininum space around tables (toward walls) = 5 1/2'

best conditions 5'+ between, and 7'+ to walls.

You also might consider a shorter cue in a confined space.

God I hate those short cues or trouble shooters. I can never get the stroke shot I want with those.

If you are going to get a short cue... have a cue maker make you a SP shorty with a shaft you like. I knew a guy once that had a SP shorty made with an OB shaft... it was sometime like 38 inches... played 1000% better than a trouble shooter and wasn't that much different from any good custom cue.

From outside edge. However,if space is tight I'd measure from edge of playfield + length of cue + say 6" backswing. Also if space is tight you really only need enough space to walk between tables. This is for a "home setup".

EDIT: Oh yes you stated a shop.....in that case add...."avoid moving machinery" lol
