A Question For LS77 And Advice

Are you a male?? I am pregnant not dead. You want me to go play pool somewhere else? The closest pool hall (that I am aware of) that has no smoking is in NYC...that would be a 4 hour one way drive. All of my friends that have tables smoke. You have no idea what the enviroment that I play in on a regular basis is like. It is not like you think. I did not start this thread. Drivermaker was the person looking for advice, not me...I have my friends and family to get that from. If you think I am an irresponsable and lack willpower then you know nothing about me. I replied to this thread because it had my name on it, and I knida think Drivermaker was looking for some action...it seems like he may have gotten it. I am not looking to be cheered on. I stated my opinion on the subject. Thank you for your concern though.

I know you didn't start this thread but I chimed in because it's something I feel very strongly about. Sorry if it's none of my business, but your baby doesn't have a choice in this situation, and I was hoping I could give you a whiff of common sense.

The well being of your child's life is at stake. What is more important, pool or your baby? Since what I'm saying doesn't mean jack shit to you, go talk to your doctor and tell him/her how often you go to a place where people smoke and you are going to get an earful about how you shouldn't even visit a place like that once a week. When a fetus is developing it is incredibly sensitive to everything it comes in contact with, especially toxins. Cells are developing and tobacco smoke can really wreak havoc and cause so many problems I can't even begin to name them. I'm talking about anything from deformity to SIDS to low birth weight, or even being born with a life-threatening illness... YOU NAME IT. If you care about your child go talk to your doctor.

Yeah, a real pain in the ass....

I know 6 people who have died because of cigarette smoke. One of them was a non-smoker who's husband smoked like a chimney around her.

I'd rather be a pain in the ass than an ignorant ass who thinks 'a little smoke here and there won't harm a baby'. I worked at a hospital and I've seen the effects of tobacco, yes even on newborns. Maybe you havent, so obviously that's the reason why you don't give a flying fuck.

Is the non smokers husband still alive? I know a lady that smoked while she was pregnant did like it NO I didnt but who the hell am I to tell some else how to live thier life and when to smoke and not smoke??? LS didnt ask for your opinon so why are talking down to her like she is an evil person because she goes and plays pool 3 times a week! You are probably the same person that doesnt listen to howard stern but complains the loudest because he is vulgar and obscene!!

There is a big difference between a thirteen year old who can step outside if it gets too smoky and a mother with a baby in her womb pumping secondhand or firsthand tobacco smoke into her baby's lungs.

The point of the article was not no much about the age of the child as about the responsibility vis-a-vis the rights of the parents to smoke. Another big difference, since you brought it up, is that the unborn baby doesn't breathe
in the smoke directly. Which brings me to a question:

How does smoke get into the lungs of an unborn baby? Or are you talking about the changes in the mom's blood that probably affects the baby, too?

What effects on newborns have you witnessed? And how do you know smoking was the cause?

Curious,

Jeff Livingston

Ah, the truth is if I get one night in I'm lucky now days. (And that has been for quite some time, LOL)

Thank you for everyone's concerns. I'm not a stupid person and I know what stuff does to you. LowEnglish, you know nothing about me and I know nothing about you. ANY thread about smoking has lead to BIG arguments and flame wars. I'm not going to partake in such non-sense on a subject that is very serious. People have concrete ideas about what is right and wrong when it comes to smoking, child rearing, pregnancy, religion, politics, and so on. One person's views aren't gonna change another's. This whole thread, like it or not, is a MORAL issue. If I walked into the convenience store obviously pregnant, and lay a 6 pack of Budweiser and a carton of Camels on the counter, is the cashier gonna lecture me about being pregnant and purchasing such things that will have a potential negative effect on my unborn child? NO. She'll ask for my ID and my money. Why? Because it is NOT a legal issue, but a moral one. Does it make sense to argue about morals...No. Why? Because you are not going to change one person's views over the internet. My life involves 3 people, my unborn child, my husband, and myself. We 3 are the ones with the say. Again, if you think I don't care, am selfish, or whatever then you have no clue about who I am. Furthermore, you have no idea what has been discussed with my doctor and what hasn't. I'll be gald to update you when you start paying for my visits.

Now I thought this damn forum was about pool.
