A question for Mezz owners

hey, everyone.
i was wondering if anyone who owns a Mezz cue can answer a question for me.

i recently got a Mezz; i like it, and now, i want to get a second shaft for it. have any of you had any problems with your new shaft fitting the joint pin of the butt? that unified joint fits so snugly that i'm concerned about the strict tolerances preventing a new shaft from screwing on properly.
thanks.

I have a Mezz ZZ-07 with a Predator 314. The 314 came with the cue - no Mezz shaft. So I'm of no help. :p

A buddy has a ZZ, also, though he ordered a 314 later. He has no issues with the shaft screwing on.

Hey, Regulator1956

Hmm.. So your buddy ordered a 314 shaft after he got his original cue, and it screwed on just fine? That's the kind of substantiation I'm looking for. Thanks for the info.

I've had my cue together for a couple weeks at home. I just tried to unscrew the shaft. Won't come apart. I tried and tried. Finally, I spun the cue with one hand while squeezing the joint with the other hand to generate heat. That worked. I guess it is a very snug fit. It goes on and off fine now, though the fit is quite snug.

I was a little worried there for a minute.

Heh.
I know what you mean. I was very satisfied with the snugness of the unified joint, but it also occured to me that temperature fluctuations would cause different degrees of expansion and contraction of the stainless steel parts versus the wooden parts of the joint. And as you have just discovered, that can create problems when screwing and unscrewing.

Do *NOT* use the 5/16 shaft on your fine Mezz - it will destroy the joint.

Its INCREDIBLY TIGHT!!

Here is the website in the U.S. that can "tighten you up" - and the price was fair too:

Thanks for the info, deadstrokeman.

I could tell right away that a standard 5/16 pin wouldn't be appropriate for the Mezz. And it sounds like I can count on good fit if I get a new Mezz shaft.
