Hello All,

I have never posted a cue review in the past, but with this new acquisition and the fact that most folks haven't hit a ball with an Astle much less held one I thought it might be helpful to post.

I have been looking at Astle cues for the last couple of years wondering what the hype and the over 6 years wait list was all about. So, when one come up for sale that hit my personal marks (ivory joint, ivory ferrule, matching JPs, wrapless, ebony, with points) I decided why not?

Well, having played with and owned MANY different cues - from Southwest, PFD, Szamboti, JW, Bluegrass, Robinson, Mike Bender, Tasc, to name just a few off the top of head - These cues are players.

Aaron makes a cue with an ultra-smooth and lively hit that isn't to firm, quiet and is far from soft yet you can feel the hit so nicely with the resonance he builds into his cues with precision coring using tone woods (my cue is ebony top to base with a purple heart core). The butt taper is slim by most standards and really fits the hand for a nice loose stroke. The shaft tapers have a nice long gradual taper that isn't whippy but will move the cue ball effortlessly. Table length draw shots are simple and when loading the cue up with english, the shots are accurate, and the cue ball spins where you want it. This holds true for follow shots and inside / outside english. Finally, the fit and finish is impeccable. Other cuemakers would hope to generate a finish as smooth, deep, and shiny as his.

I just wanted to let anyone that might be interested know that Aaron makes one of the best cues I have played with to date... I will keep this cue and play with it until my Southwest arrives late this year is my plan.

I am not a paid endorser and bought my cue.

Thank
Ryan

I have two Astle cues, one custom and one was from a few that people ordered and couldn’t take ownership of for one reason or another and he sold on his Facebook page. I also have one due around May of this year and 2 more starting next month for a delivery next spring. So to say I like his stuff is accurate. I’ve owned cues by Scruggs, Tads, Joss West, Nitti, Cohen, Sly, and Rick Howard among others, not to mention the production cues like Predator and Cuetec. I’d put Aaron’s cues up against any of them. Of course hit is a totally subjective feel, but there is a reason that a cue maker that only has a Facebook page and no real website, has a waiting list that goes to 2030. Sure others have longer wait times, but ask any serious pool cue enthusiast who Dennis Searing is and they’ll recognize the name and the quality and that is why his waiting list is so long. But ask those same people who Aaron Astle is and 90%+ have never heard of him. They don’t know what they are missing. Go check out “Astle Custom Cues“ on Facebook if you can and check out all the photos he has posted. His ringwork is second to NONE!

That is a beautiful AA cue, love those ebony wrap less designs with four or six points on them. I am going to guess it plays just as good as it looks. I have a Nitti and a Coker, but both are leather wrapped and I have been wanting to find a nice wrap less designed cue for a while now. If you don't mind me asking what was the ballpark figure for an AA cue like yours? I didn't see anything on the Facebook page about what price range his cues run in, only that the wait time was like 18 months or so.
