posted in main forum....need to have a liquor license changed over in Va...what are my set-backs?

I’m not familiar with VA laws, however in Delaware it was quite a process. The State doe not allow transferable licenses. When I bought the business, I filed (through an attorney) could have done it on my own. Even though it was a bit more expensive, I think it went a lot smoother than without one.

I had to provide a floor plan to the commission, full State and FBI background investigation, including fingerprints, a ton of forms, tax returns, credit standings, questions and more questions, attend a liquor server certification course, give them money, money and more money.

My advice would be to get an attorney that specializes in that field like I did. It will save you a ton of time and frustration.
 
One thing that is good, is that if there is a license in place (even though you can't switch it over to you) It makes it much easier and faster. That's what worked for me. A good lawyer can push it through. Had my approval, and license framed on the wall the day we closed the sale.

He did a good job and we had it in hand in less than thirty days. Good luck to you and your endeavor....
