accu stats 9 ball classic matches

Just for your info

Phillips used to make a unit that housed both VCR and DVD, and you could record to DVD from the VCR/ They originallly sold for $400. Other companies might have something out now, haven't checked lately, or if Phillips still sells them, they have probably come down in price.

That one is definitely my favorite as well, and was the greatest shot I've ever seen. There are also some other great matches that have been pointed out in this thread.
 
Nah...I don't want anything vhs...just makes me feel like I still have tapedeck, and betamax in the house somewhere, its embarrassing.
 
The VHS thing is the only thing holding me back from buying some of these matches also. I emailed accustats asking if the Color of Money race to 120 match is offered in DVD but I havnt heard back yet.

I could get a home DVD recorder and convert them myself but I dont want to have all those tapes laying around. Its kind of rediculous to still be using tapes. If they had all their matches on DVD as well, you wouldnt be able to get me off their site.

I agree! I'm dying to see some of these professional matches. Particularly one pocket and straight pool since I don't get exposure to that normally. But I don't own a working VCR player. Come on! its 2006. Maybe if we ALL write Accu-Stats they will convert the older matches. I'll do it today.

Looking in their 2006 catalog, I see no mention of the TCOM race being available on DVD. All I have seen available are the tapes. Accu-stats didn't start producing DVD matches until the 2003 US Open if I remember correctly. The 2005 US Open matches are only available on DVD. If you have a question, call them toll-free at 1-800-828-0397 & make your inquiry that way if you get no e-mail response. Their catalog of available matches is still free.

I wouldn't be so hesitant if I were you about the VHS format. True, it is inferior to DVD as far as picture quality & sound go. However, there are many older films and TV shows that have yet to make it on to DVD. As far as Accu-Stats goes, you would also be missing out on many great matches & great players that are only available on VHS.

DVD recorders really aren't that much now in my opinion. Like all technology, prices will decline on the appliance eventually. I remember when I was over at Best Buy recently they had a generic stand-alone model for around $100.00. The problem is finding one that utilizes a wide range of the recording media & has a user-friendly menu. My DVD recorder was able to record on 4 out of 5 available formats when I last checked, is user friendly, & does a nice job recording as well as playing a commercial disc.

Brand new stand-alone VCR decks are still available, though it is more common now to see them as a combo unit featuring either a DVD player or recorder. When I last checked on stand-alone models, I saw none priced over $90.

If that was the US Open match from 3-4 years ago, it was a great match.

Davenport vs Archer- Davenport played as strong a match as I have ever seen.

Varner vs Archer- Nick is always a threat

99 Open- Deuel vs Reyes- 1st time I saw Corey play- he kept up as long as he could. Had some bad roles go his way.

00 Open- Archer vs Deuel- Hill-Hill.

Parica vs McCready- Not too bad, very funny though!

All in my collection, all good.

I read on accu stats that they will no longer record on vhs everything is on dvd from now on. Now I doubt they will go back and record all the older matches on dvd but from now on they will only come in dvd starting with this year open.

Does anybody have a link to the shot by Reyes that has been mentioned several times? I´ll make sure I get my hands on the full match, but gotta see this shot.

I made the purchase a couple months ago and am very pleased (although I would prefer DVD, too). I agree with Tommy D., in fact I would watch everything from Tape 1 until the last 15 minutes or so, as that left a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth after an unbelievably impressive, high-quality showing by Efren and Earl.

It's not something you can realistically watch in one sitting. I spent about 2 weeks to watch it all. I would say that there were only about 5 mistakes in the first 50 games, and after 200 there were less than 20 mistakes in total! :eek:

Earl couldn't hold it together at the very end, but it would be hard for anyone to hold it together seeing Efren coming like a train, eating away at your lead, when you're so close to the finish line, and then continuing on. You would have to really be a mental robot to keep it together after playing for 10+ hours. It is expensive (I hope Efren and Earl get some royalties), but should be in every pool players library.

It has been a while since I have watched the shot so this is probably not a perfect illustration and I cannot remember if he made the 7 or the 8, but this is a close representation of the shot.

It was a phenomenal shot... Again this is a general representation, I cannot remember the shot exactly so there may be some details that are not correct.

AMEN! I thought I was the only one. The One, you are right; all the matches should be converted to DVD. I am considering boycotting accu-stats until this happens. It is particularly important that the old matches get converted b/c they are way better than the new ones with that Jim Wetch guy who is a complete boob.

SJM, look at you naming a classic one-pocket tape! That Steve Dobrowski tape is definately good. I not buying that "oh I don't know anything about 1hole" line anymore. You cover is officially blown. :)

A great nine ball tape is Charlie Williams v. Evgeny Stalev and a great DVD is Corey Duel v. Mika Immonen in the 2005 US Open where Duel shoots one of his famous draw shots.

What are you talking about? Just to make sure, you are talking about The Color of Money in Hong Kong for $100,000 right? I just watched the first tape and there was no 5-pack ran, I think there was one 2 pack and thats it.
