ACS Reno Turnout a huge flop.

Coming straight from Reno Nevada, it looks as though the first ACS 9 ball event has been a glorious flop. Congratulations are in order to John Lewis and Cecil Messer for severing the pool industry. Should be interesting to see who the winners of the events are and what the added money was. Is any of the media covering this one?

John,

I'm no fan of the concept of the ACS. However, as they are providing another venue for us to play in, I wish them all the luck in the world. Having said that, choosing the week before the BCA event, on the same coast, in the same state, leads me to believe they wished to have the BCA event fail. Kind of a conundrum! Why make the players choose? Separate the events so we can play in both if WE choose!

what is this "ACS" of which you speak? LMAO!!

Larry,

I assume you are somewhat serious. American CueSports is the other phoenix billiard sanctioning body that arose out of the BCA League structure last year. The BCA League structure itself was purchased by Mark Griffin. Some of the old employees (disgruntled?) started a rival league organization (ACS). Among their objectives were, in no particular order; take over the sanctioning of bar box pool in the US for the betterment of pool players everywhere, save their high paying jobs (never mentioned that), create fear among the BCA faithful that Mark Griffin was going to run the BCA Leagues FOR PROFIT!!!! To make sure that Mr. Griffin couldn't be successful, the ACS scheduled their National playoffs right before both National BCA events. Obviously, no other dates or locations were available. BCA events are in Vegas. ACS events in Reno. Strange why the ACS would hold their events in the same state and in the same months. That sure makes it easy for pool players like us to play in both. Yeah, right.

If your pulling my leg, you succeeded! Just what we players needed. With the VNEA, APA, BCA and TAP, we needed the ACS like a hole in the head. As I said in my original post, I still wish them luck. It is another event for some of us to play in!

Hmmm define flop. It was the first major event they had, and as I have been down at the Silver Legacy all week I would have to be honest and say I have had a blast.
I will get the added money figures for you tomorrow if you are really interested just PM me so this does not become just one more flame war on the boards. I can honestly say that this has only encouraged me more and made me look forward to the USPPA event here next month. I will be ON FIRE.
I did not see any media there, but I will ask around for you as well. See you folks in Vegas.

Flop meaning low turn out. From what I was told there were 16 in the women's 78 in the Open and 20 teams. It was also confirmed that the majority of these players are the league operators and disgruntled employees and friends of the above.
As Mr. Kid above points out. The event in Reno was scheduled after the BCA had announced their dates in Vegas. It was intently done on the ACS part. That's the way they operate. Lewis lost control of the BCA league systems so he along with Messer didn't want loose their perks by being NON FOR PROFIT. By supporting the ACS, you are supporting the life styles of both of these questionable characters.

Mr Eight you will hear the truth when you get to Vegas. I suggest you look up some of the members that are going to Vegas and ask them what really happened. Otherwise, Looking forward to your reporting of events.

John,

I've known John Lewis for many, many years. I don't believe questionable character is a fair description. John and Cecil did what any American would have done under the circumstances they found themselves in. I disagree on what they chose to do. There are already too many sanctioning bodies. I also disagree on how they went about setting up their own business. Fear seems to be the way America operates today. This past election is proof of that. I can't speak for Cecil, but John did a great job for many years with the BCA. I prefer to remember him for that. Most of those in attendence in Reno were there because of him and how he ran the BCA leagues in the past.

I have head some unflattering remarks abut the TAP league. Can you enlighten me or give me your opinion? It would ne greatly appreciated.

Sorry lunchmoney, other than seeing a TAP event being played in Valley Forge during the Allen Hopkins Expo, I know nothing about the organization.

Thanks for the info Cardiac,

The comments I heard were not from the most reliable sources and I was just wondering if there was any validity to them. TAP leagues have not seemed to catch on in Washington State as of yet but they are trying hard.
