HUH? ............. Who are the people to play? Give me several names as on occasion I like to travel and this is within my driving distance.
Thansk, JoeyA

I visited there a couple of times in past years at tournaments and had a great time but got the impression that there wasn't a lot of gambling. The owner Andy (who passed away a couple of years ago) was a great guy who occasionally posted here on RSB.

Starcade is great. I hung around there from 98-00 when I was stationed at Hurlburt. At the time, David Broxton, Rick Howard, Scotty Townsend were a few strong gamblers who would match up. There was a guy named Morty who played pretty good and a couple of younger guys. One was named Justin (he must be around 24 or 25 now) who played STRONG and bet high. There was another kid who was kind of skinny, had dark short hair, a dark mustache and always had a ballcap on. He shot about 70% of Justin's speed but I've heard plays real strong now. I just can't recall his name right off hand. Oh, there was a guy named Denny who played good. I guess I could recall more if I really sat and thought about it. I loved that pool room and all of the people who ran it. A great bunch of folks! I sure was disheartened when I found out Andy passed away. He made me feel like Starcade was home the first time I walked through the doors. You've brought up a few years worth of good memories!

Why are you screaming!?

been goin out more lately. if you are in the place late night ill hook you up with a game,,,,,,,,,,,,,ask for Wild Bill,,,,,,,,,or just look for the big guy playing with a Szamboti.

ive been going to starcade for years and there are some players that show up on a regular basis. be careful who you match up with and dont fall into a trap,,,,,,,,,,,,or at least not a deep one. 6 ahead for a thousand was played not long ago,

and as far as matching up with bobby,,,,,,lol,,,,,,,,,,,,5-10 for one pocket is about all he will do, but hes not too bad at one hole. he usually has a game if hes there. he doesnt sit around too much.

if you want to play Rick some, im sure he will play. Scotty will too if hes in town. got a half a dozen short stops and ill stop there without blowing anyones action

bar tables or 4 1/2x9 theres a lot of pool going on at starcade,,,,,,,,,,,go in the back for serious games

Bill, Are you the guy who used to knock out during tournaments and snore real loud? Not saying it to embarrass you...just trying to place you. That is the only BILL I can remember...and i went to Champions daily from 98-00 while I lived down there. If you're not 'Sleepy Bill'...how might I remember you?

Also, that skinny kids name is JOSH I believe? Is this correct? I knew he had potential, but at that time Justin played almost or maybe as good as David Broxston and was just plain strong -- moreso at gambling than tournaments it seemed. Josh wasn't at that level in those days, but in 6 years I'm sure he has stepped his game up. But, that beggs the question...has Justin stepped his game up or did it go down? I'm curious to know as I liked watching all of those guys play.

Best I ever did (in those days, my game has gone up) was playing Broxston a cheap set in 9 ball to 11. He was jerking around, joking with someone..not really paying attention and before you know it I had him 10-5. He buckled down and finished me off..LOL. I wonder how much his game has improved in these 6 years?

Fill me in guys. I'm enjoying these posts and I miss Starcade Billiards.

Does that little guy David still work there who was in the Air Force? He couldn't play a lick back then (he was just starting) but I bet he's improved. Does that businessman Rick still play there everyday? What about Byron? He used to play pretty sporty. Last but not least, but about that older man....he had a Schon cue with a "coffin" case. He liked to joke a lot and gamble. He was a little crazy, but a pretty good guy. I can't remember his name to save my life. He was kind of on the heavy side as well.

All for now. Looking forward to some updates.

matt, you are thinking of a different bill "sleepy bill" hangs out with bobby.... Byron unfortunatly passed away last fall, he had a damn nice collection of cues, I enjoyed playing 1 pocket with him, he taught me alot about the game, i remember us playing 1 pocket and he go to 15 and i go to 6, he would always come up with some crazy spot just to see if he could win. Rick still comes in both Howard and "buisnessman". I havent saw david in there in a while. I dont recall the other people you mentioned. granted I go in late at night..yo billfish i havent seen you in there in a while...

Byron passed away????? Oh man, that is terrible. He was a nice guy and cue crazy!! (Just started coming to Starcades when I came there and went cue crazy pretty fast). He started off playing with a cuetec and I could see he could play. From there he just started buying cues left and right. Really loved them. Does Rick Howard's girlfriend (or she was at one time) still work at Starcades? She was really nice to me, although I could see her have a real attitude with some folks. She was real sweet to me though. How are Robin and Barbara?

yea, i have one of byrons cues it is a 6 pt Rick Howard, i think he only had 3 production cues 80's schon and joss some old ass brunswick 2 pc and a axiom jump break that he got for 20$ all the rest were custom, and i think he had 4-5 cues being built.. No Ricks girlfriend doesnt work there anymore, Robin and Barbara seem to be doing good they just got back from Tx at a Pool convention they picked up a bunch of nice Schons and I think a Runde.. hey when you were here did you remember a tim scruggs cue they had in the case? a buddy and i were tryin to guess how long they have had it, i have been going in there 00-01 periodically, then 04-06 and i remember it in 04 and it is still there..

The only "custom" cues Andy carried were Runde's when I was there. He had a few Schons, and some Lucasi cues when they first came out. The RUNDE models were pretty nice.

So Byron was still hot and heavy into the cues eh? Doesn't surprise me. He loved cues. Did he get sick? What happened?

Ok, let's get it straight.. This is the skinny kid speaking. haha.. And stop callin me the skinny kid. heh.. I was praying nobody would mention my name here but since you have I have to agree this is a knock fest. hah.. I wasn't 70% of Justins game back then I just stayed in the shadows and wasn't noticed as much.. As you stated Justin loved to gamble and did get in a bunch of crazy games where I prefered to make reasonable games and wouldn't take as many chances as he liked to. To make it short and sweet Justin doesn't play anymore.. As for the rest of us you mentioned, If you'de like to know how we play now the doors always open and don't forget to bring your cue. hah..

P.S.

If you don't have a cue the skinny kid will sell you one!!

Sorry...I meant "Slim" Kid. (Just kidding).

I don't remember your last name - but that rings a bell. You were so young then (must have been 16) so I'm sure you're not a kid anymore. Heck at the time I was only 20 so I wasn't much older.

I'm not saying you played bad --- just at the time your game wasn't at Justin's level, or at least you didn't show it (as you said, you stayed in the shadows). I did see a lot of potential for a great game though when I saw you play. I've heard you hit 'em pretty good now. I never mentioned your last name (didn't remember it), but knew you as Josh...so I wasn't knockin' your action. I knew a few Josh's down there. I'm terrible with last names anyway...I just remember first names and faces.

Hey...I know the doors are always open for action down there. Next time I come down I'll ask for you, and I'm sure you'll offer me the right amount of weight I'll need to make the game fair, and I might buy a cue from you as well. Didn't you always play with a Rick Howard? I did at that time (that Rick basically gave to me). I sold your friend (black dude with cornrows) a warped Bludworth Sneaky pete for $30 bucks that he must have played with for a year. He loved that cue.

Send me a p.m. I'd like to hear about everyone down there. I'm sure you'd remember me if you saw me.

Hey Matt,

Yeah, I do remember you.. My friend you mentioned with "cornrows" is Eric and he's still around. I don't think he minds me sayin his name. Sure, I'de play you a little if you wanted for cheap but i think you'de rather play my friend.. :-) There's some what of a new maker out by the name of Slamstone that i'm about to start playing with. However i buy and sell cues on the regular so i can find you pretty much whatever you'de like to play with.. Talk to you later..

Yeah...Eric. He was a funny guy.

My games picked up a bit since I last saw you. We could play for cheap, or not so cheap. I've heard about your game now, but I'll try you some one pocket or banks. Which friend would I rather play? Eric?

Now, I'm sure back in 99 or so you had a real pretty Rick Howard cue. Didn't you also run around with a white guy who shot "ok" (I'm sure he's a lot better player now) and had gold teeth. He drove that Eclipse. I don't want to say his name on here. I used to enjoy playing him and his buddy. A bit taller with longer hair, and like you always had on a ballcap. He shot a bit better than goldteeth.

I've got a brand new Skip Weston coming next week, but to be honest...I shoot pretty good with anything that has a Predator shaft.

Good talking to you. Send me an email with your cue inventory. I'll pm you.

Matt
