whos in action @ vf

The standard pit has been running. I was sweating and fading (and sometimes fainting) the action for about 4 hours straight. The price was at 20 beans, 9-ball, but at some point switched to 40 and 10-ball. The going idea in the past couple of years is that everyone is a champion on the barbox at 9-ball, but the really top players would have the advantage with 10-ball. Also, using a Diamond Smart Table instead of a Valley barbox, the games non-champions should have been weeded out.

Sparky Ferral has been holding court the last couple of days, both on the table, and off. I've only seen him miss one ball. He's been dressed well, shows a lot of personality, and has upped his game in the last few years. I can't remember if he was here last year. All of these events sort of blend together.

The Genie Man always hits these events hard, and though he's here, I don't see the same impact he normally makes.

The Earthquake slid into the action and shook up the joint. At one point, the woofing got a little heated, as Sparky was barking it up with Keith. Keith looked visibly upset when he finally shouted out, "Sparky, why are you getting in my face? I'M BETTING ON YOU!" That got a big laugh, but the two were still a little red. Seems Sparky was trying to generate action by offering up 2:1. Keith was trying to generate sweats giving 3:2. From Keith's pov, he's protecting the money. From Sparky's pov, his action is getting thumped. I can see both points.

But that being said, the price of pool went up quickly, as Scooter changed the whole game. For the rest of us, double sawbucks were still the norm, but Scooter went to a nickel on the side and paid it off the first game, booking a loser. When he got on the table, everyone was looking to get some from what seemed to be a feedbag. I've seen Scooter in action before, and though he's good, he's not normally on the same level as Sparky, Ryan, T-Rex, or McCready (all in the house). But, on these tables, playing 10-ball, he took everything down the last half hour I was there. He covered every reasonable bet offered. And he started running 10-ball racks like nobody had been all day. That is, it wasn't like the other players were on the dump. Scooter was getting out and making it look easy.

He was up a dime or two when I left. Maybe JAM knows if he kept it, or donated back to the pack.

And, if anyone cares, I saw badged security in the house, having a great time watching the action and hearing the banter.
