Adding weight?

adding weight

What kind of cue? How is it constructed? Is it a playing cue or a break cue? How much weight? What are you looking to do with it?

It's for my playing cue. I want to experiment if having additional weight (on the joints) would give a better forward "push" and kinda like guiding your arm fo a good forward stroke. That's just my opinion though, I'm not sure if it would work.

The joint pin can be replaced with either a heavier one, or with weight added behind it.

You are on the right track as many playes like a forward weighted cue.
However, many do not.
I agree with Merylane that a heavier shaft should be your first choice.
If your cue shaft does not use a brass insert ... in other words ... if it is just a threaded hole then a small weight could be placed at the bottom of that hole to make your shaft heavier. This would move the balance point forward toward the joint. This is something you would probably let a cue repair person do as it could damage the threads if not done carefully.
I would recomend first having a heavier shaft made, adding a shaft weight second, and lastly having your joint pin removed and a weight added there.
Try some small pieces of lead taped onto the joint to see how much weight you feel is right for you. If it is more than about a half ounce, forget the shaft idea.

I do have a brass insert, is it possible to take the rings out off my shaft and put it on a new and heavier shaft?

Instead of getting a new shaft, can I drill a small hole and insert a bolt weight a few inches away from the joint (shaft or butt)?
