Aegis II Question

I recently purchased a rod of Aegis II from Atlas for making ferrules. I love the way Aegis hits. The problem I keep having is the dark stuff that appears when sanding it smooth. It looks like it's in the weave, but I don't see it while I'm cutting it down. Am I doing something wrong? I've tried everything I could think of to clean it, including white jewelers rouge. I've also read all the threads that I could find on Aegis. No success. Is there a version of Aegis that does not have this problem? I have an Aegis ferrule on my player that is super clean.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I did the same thing. You need to blast it with high pressure air to keep it cool and clean as you sand it. Make sure to use clean paper.
