Aftermarket shafts not tapped deep enough

I’m having problems with aftermarket shafts not screwing all the way down.

3/8x10 and radial.

One is a kw radial wood to wood. One is a radial 314-2 with phenolic insert. The last is a 3/8x10 Rhino cf.

What’s the fix? Can they just be tapped deeper, or do they need to be plugged?

Thanks

First thing; check with a caliper or depth micrometer, so you know how deep the hole is. Due to the taper of the tap a Radial shaft needs to be bored 2.3" deep. Do the same thing with the 3/8-10 shaft, this will let you know if at can be tapped or if you have to make the hole deeper first.

I agree with Sheldon and Kim.
If you know someone with bottoming taps. You should be ok and not have to plug the shafts.
Radial taps come in 2 sizes but the lead on the tap is one problem. Using the undersized tap in phenolic or juma is the next problem. It fits tighter than it does in wood.
3/8x10,
Most tap the hole according to what they use in thier Cues.
It can and will vary amongst Cue makers.

My 3/8x10 Rhino had the same problem. 3/8 mod brass wouldn't screw down all the way, 3/8 mod G-10 was ok. Ran a tap. Ok now. Had somewhat of the same problem with the 5/16x14. Four of my cues fit ,but one wouldnt screw down all the way. I thought it was the pilot. It wasnt. I shaved down the final thread on the pin and it is good now. Holes were plenty deep. My gaps werent that severe as the op
