Well well..had to go to Ohio for court last week...I used to live in Troy Ohio..long drive from Richmond Va...but i did get a chance to stop by Airway billiards..home of Mr. Jason Miller...an IPT card holder..He was doing his volleyball thing. i had forgot what the placed look like..good food.. alot of one pocket was played..i was with my wife so i just got a table and shot around..good food..loved the blt..some older guys were at the first two tables shooting one pocket.. I told the waitress i was visiting from va...so if the word got around that a big black guy with a tee shirt with a pool table on the back that said "Nothing but the back of the Pocket" was there...it was me..ha ha ha..cool place to play..

Glad to hear that you liked it. I used to live in Cedarville, about 20 minutes away. Unfortunately never got a chance to visit that place.

I got to play against some of the areas best players including a very young Jason Miller (maybe 16 when I played him) at the old Airways in the shopping center on the east side of Dayton.

Gary Speath, Joe Brown, Rick Garrison, the Carelli brothers, Ralph Black, Steve Cook, Bucky Bell and a slew of other great players were among a
regular Monday nite single elimination $5 tournament.

This tournament has been recognized as one of the best in the area, with an average of 40+ players per event and a great TD that kept the matches moving and the payouts were great.

The move to Needmore RD, in the late 90s made the event ever better. More tables, great food and lots of room.

I flew out to Airway Billiards, from Oklahoma, in 2002, to take some lessons from George Rood. It was an amazing 4 days of good food, great pool, a top notch tournament, great guys & some new found knowledge. George was 86 then.... he is an amazing gentleman. Todd Rescher is great Room owner... great place to be part of.

Wow...Bucky Bell..shot out of Airway...i have sat in a pool hall more than once here in Richmond Va till the early morning hours listening to someone talk about how good Bucky Bell was...everyone that has ever talked about him talked about his ability to shoot one handed...wish i could have seen it.

I listened to George Rood and Bucky talk at length about spots they would give in games. Bucky and George both agreed that they both spent a lot of time practicing those spots. One handed, opposite handed, with the table bridge, one eyed, ect.

One eyed shooting they both agreed was the toughest. Buckey said he had a patch that he put on and played that way hours on end. He said it really was a spot and not one he was comfortable with. George asked if he ever played for money that way. Bucky said yes but that he always found a way to change that spot...

i lived in dayton for a while...went to UD computer science major....actually while i lived in Troy i worked at a bar in Dayton..well it was the best bar at that time.. my god that place was always packed .. SLOOPY"S had great times there..the Oregon District is insane
