Does anyone have any idea what grade of aluminum was used for these? I re-veneered my pedestals and as a result need to fabricate a couple new slightly wider strips to close the ends. Thanks for any insight. Steve

In case anyone else needs to make some closures, I used 6061.

If the material strength is not important 3003 H11 would probably be a much better choice. It is softer, forms easier, and polishes up much better than 6061T6 aluminum. You can get a softer 6061 alloy than H6 hardness but it is usually not very easy to find. When forming is required it is unusual to use 6061, 3003 and 5052 probably being the most popular for forming. 6061 usually has a brushed mil finish that takes a lot of work to polish, in fact I have never seen it in anything but the brushed mil finish. All 6061 alloys also have stripes of ink marking identifying it as such, where 5052 and 3003 are unmarked with ink.

Fastone,
Thanks for the info, I wish you were around a week ago. Anyway, strenght was not an issue and fortunately there was not much forming involved. Steve

Thanks, I have the originals. However, they are a half inch too narrow now that I re-veneered the pedestals. Steve
