Another challenge for "exotic" wood.

An occasional topic on AZB is the increasing cost of "exotic" lumber.

I got back into skiing last winter after a dozen year lapse; another geezer buddy dragged me out when the slopes opened up after Covid restrictions.
We went wherever the areas had senior discounts each week.
Still on boards I bought new in 1969. :)
Though have had 4 prs of new boots over that 1/2 century.

Skis now have gotten quite expensive.
So, like i got back into pool and making a few sticks here & there 'cause the store-bought options were $$$, the thought occurs "why not roll your own"? Continuing research, it turns out there are some 137 independent/small custom ski makers in the US! & several Ski materials suppliers.

It looks like (rough impression) maybe 10% make skis with "exotic" wood top sheets including inlays & art on feature wood.

Now i can't decide whether to go with ebony top sheets?
Or maybe coco? & then there's that big hunk of ivory that can't be used in cues anymore.....

etc.

:)
