Another John Morra Thread

I saw another person post about John Morra, and with the DCC coming up, I wanted to share my experience with John Morra at the DCC.

For the uninitiated, table time at the Derby is tough to come by. I stumbled upon an empty table between rounds, and I started hitting balls. John Morra walks up. He is predictably still in the banks tournament, and he asked if he could hit the balls with me. Of course, I agreed. I would have agreed to play with nearly anyone, but it was clearly a bonus that my opponent was going to be John Morra.

I played bank pool with John for maybe 45 minutes. He complimented a few of my banks, asked about where I was from and what event I was in.

I wasn’t able to spend any more time with him, and it doesn’t really make sense to completely make conclusions about any person after 45 minutes of bank pool. However, to me, John was genuine, polite, and just pleasant to hang out with. There was not even the smallest hint of arrogance or entitlement communicated by John. He is an easy player for me to root for, and if I owned a company that needed a player representative, he would be on my short list.

If a company out there reads this, please know, I don't see how another player could interact with your consumers any better than John Morra.

I've heard before that John was a very down to earth person. I've also hear the same said about Alex Pagulayan.

I've known John's dad for 55 years and remember little Johnny when he wasn't much taller than a pooltable and he was rolling balls on a table. If I hadn't watched the interview I never would have known what he's gone thru. I root for him whenever I watch his matches and hope he does well.

John played in the Hex.com tournament at CR Billiards in MN in August 2022. He was out on the patio in between matches with a group of 5 or 6 spectators. Spent about 30 minutes talking about his career and his switch from shooting right handed to left handed. Seemed to be a very nice guy
