Hi there,
I'm having a bottle-neck feeling when it comes to my pool game. I need something other than just practicing on my own to improve my game. I was just wondering if anyone has read any good books that advances your game and not just goes over basic stuff? Or is basics what i'm lacking...hmm. Anyway, suggestions on good books? Thanks in advance!

I think you'll learn more from personal instruction and then video. A lot of good video's out there which will allow you to see what to do rather than waste all of the time reading and possibly miss the most important part of the game which might help. Don't get me wrong, there are good books, but without knowing you're speed and problems it's hard to recommend.

Thanks drivermaker, let me clarify a little:

One of my biggest problems is advoiding scratching the cue-ball. It gets ridiculous at times. Like I go 3-rails and CB slides into the side pocket at a sharp angle...WTH! Then the next shot CB goes 2-rails and into the corner pocket...OMG...

So I guess I'm looking to increase my library of cue-ball paths more than improving cueing technique. I think this is where a book would be more useful than a video. For example, I see a setup in some book, in my mind i will think of how i would play this setup, then I continue reading and the book tells me what the most apropriate shot is, then i go practice it on the table. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I still say video...get Bert Kinisters 60 minute workout. It'll teach you through drills and practice how to go back and forth or multiple rails and find the center of the table. Unless your next OB is stuck along an end rail, you'll always have a shot from the center of the table. You'll learn speed control by doing it...not reading it. Just do a google search on Bert Kinister.

The first books to buy are books on pool playing or advanced pool playing. Many of these seem to cover the same stuff except different books will have different drills in the back. So for that reason, it is good to buy many different books. One book may be the same as all the others, but it may have one really good drill or bit of advice which makes the purchase worth it.

May want to start by looking around at used book stores.

Then when you get better at playing, get books on specific games like 9-ball, 8-ball, 14.1, etc.

Then when you get even better, seek out and find *very* specific books like on racking, aiming, mental game, pro play, bar table play, etc. These books/phamplets are very difficult to find. They will not be in any book stores. Some are available from only one web site or only directly from the author. Keep reading this forum and names of books on specific topics will pop up from time to time...

Wow thanks Deadaim! I will try your suggestions. Who needs books when u got Deadaim on AzB! :D hehe...Thanks!
