I seem to get a slight rounding at the junction point, I finish both separately. I hate to face off both surfaces and remove more material. Can anyone offer some practical solutions?
any ideas on making a seamless line between the shaft and the butt?

Sanding mandrels will keep the sandpaper from rounding off the edges.olsonsview said:

Sanding mandrels. That's the ticket.
Unless you want to do the beginner trick and sand & polish the joint area with the shaft attached. lol.
