Any Kind of maple

Does the species of maple matter or is any kind such as Queensland Maple suitable as shaft wood? Thanks joel

Yes it matters. Hard rock/sugar maple.

Even hard maple from the USA varies a lot in weight, density and appearance, depending on where it was harvested from. New England maple seems to be 10 to 20% lighter in weight than Michigan maple. The exception seems to be some Maine maple is close to Michigan maple in weight and density.
