Any of you experienced cue builders wanting to upgrade your lathe? I'm a buyer for an entry level lathe

I've always been facinated with lathes and have been researching a cue lathe for a while. It does seem the trend it towards a metal latch vs a wood lathe.

Given I'm a complete novice, I think I'm better off buying something used, knowing that if I end up liking this, I'll want to upgrade later anyway.

If one of you guys is thinking about upgrading, perhaps we can work out a win-win deal???

Good luck...used cue lathes are rare it seems, But I get it. If I had the room and money I'd have atleast 6. Nothing worse than having a lathe out of use while waiting on things to dry

You have probably seen this already, but google mid America lathes or cuesmith.com (including his book) for a good starting lathe.

Used metal lathes aren't hard to find. You'll need atleast 36" between centers and a 1.5" through bore, lot's of companies specialize in selling used machinery, you might pay a bit more, but they have gone through the lathe and made sure it works. It's probably easier as they have equipment to arrange transport to you. A lathe of that size weights about about 1500-2000lbs

I have a Hightower Mid Sized with a couple upgrades. It is a year old and cost me approximately $2400. If I were to sell it in order to get a new one, I would be asking nearly new price. They seldom wear out and are currently 6 weeks out for delivery.
I am only telling you this for you to decide whether you want to buy used or go for the new.
