A couple of nights ago i was shooting some friends of mine who are not as good as i am. i was showing off a bit, I was in good company so it was all cool. An older gentlman was working with a guy on a back table teaching him about pool. I saw him looking at me ..and he actually had a bit of a discusted look on his face. I knew it was due to me showing off and wolfing at my budies..but i dont think he realized that we always did this on late Sunday night. Well i talked to the waitress and found out what their tab was. they had eaten a meal and couple of drinks. So i told the waitress to put their tab on me. A few minutes the older gentleman asked for his tab and the waitress had infomed him that i payed his tab. He called me over and thanked me and offered me cash...saying i did not have to do that and asked why i did it. I told him i saw the disscusted look he gave me when i was over at the table with my buddies. I told him we always goof off like that toward the end of the night. He complimented my game and asked how long i have been playing. I told him years ago i played every day for 6 hours a day but layed the game down for 9 years. He was impressed that I had gotten back as much as i did in such a short time. He asked if i minded shooting a drill for him . I said sure . He put a ball against the rail on each diamond and a ball by each side pocket. He gave me ball in hand and said that the cue ball could only touch one rail if needed and could not touch another ball.. At first i thought no problem...HAHHHH.. i found out quickly that it was a bit tougher than i thought..after about three attempts i could do it with a bit of effort. He was impressed at how quicky i picked it up. He packed his stuff up told his student lets go and told me to keep practicing that drill and that he said it was a fair trade the drill for the meal. We both laughed, shook hands and as he walked away..smiled and said two things that made me very proud. He said "Son meeting you makes me think that there might be hope for young people yet" (i guess cause i was respectful to him and listened and called him sir, like my mama and daddy taught me hehe) and complimented my game and said "You got a lot of potential son..keep playing" I have never seen the guy again..but hope to run in to him again. But that drill is really a good drill.
