Any production cuemakers using black linen phenolic joints?

Schon, Predator, Mezz, Pechauer ect.
Are all using Metal joints, why is this?

I find it kinda weird, that so many use metal. I find a Metal joint adds so much weight to the center of the cue.
And the Metal will take away the feeling of the hit. Am I wrong on this?

The HIT of a cue is determined by several factors begining at the tip and is progressively affected less as the cue gets longer. Tip, backing or not, ferrule taper joint collar material on the shaft and joint collar. So you see there are a lot of variables just in a shaft that can affect the hit of the cue.

The stainless joint collar is from quality cues like Szamboti. It is unlikely to split looks good and has been imitated by many a cue maker. I believe that 80 to 90 per cent of the HIT a cue has is in the shaft section.

Pechauer does make a phenolic joint in the JP series of their cues. I personally like the phenolic joints. Viking and Muecci also make a selection of cues with phenolic joints. :)

Hey Stickman...
What's with the Pechauer JP series? Is it a lower level cue?

Phenolic joints and medium hard tips are my fav!

nope, meucci doesn't use Phenolic, it's a cheap flexible plastic called implex... correct me if i'm wrong...
I know that mcdermott uses phenolic joints, can't go wrong there..

Linen-based phenolic is very common and cheap. Atlas sells the double-black linen phenolic tubes. Meucci uses cheap plastic. I am not sure what the Pechauer material is made of. White linen-phenolic is not very common.
Metal joints can be thin-wall ( unthreaded),thin threaded and the piloted type. The piloted type is very heavy and kills the hit imo too.
You don't see metals on a violin, do you? :D

Big Jon, thanks for the correction on the joint material. I'm not a fan of Muecci anyway. The JP series can be found here. http://www.seyberts.com/pechauer/jpseries/index.htm

I'm not certain if the Pechauer is phenolic or implex, but I have a friend with one and I love it. It looks great and plays great. I plan to own one as soon as I can dig up the money. I want a 60" cue from them.
