Anybody hit with a Jerry Rauenzahn?

A good friend of mine has one and a hit wih it for about 15 minutes. I was very impressed with the hit. I prefer a wood to wood joint but found myself liking the solid hit of the Rauenzahn. To sum up what I have seen, it was a very well constructed cue, very good finish, great hit and nicely done points. JMO hope it helps...

Just curious how they hit and play.

Thanks,

Where in the hell do you come up with these names, Shorty? Every week you ask about a cuemaker that has to be one of the most obscure in the cue making world that could be dredged up. What do you do...subscribe to Chris Hightowers', Leonard Bludworths', and Home Depots list of newest lathe sales? (I can't wait for the next one)

Dude, you picking on me? LOL...

Sorry but I can't afford the bludworth's, gilbert's, mottey's, and misc. others...so I buy off-brand named cues, looking for a diamond in the rough so to speak. It's a hobby and fun to me.

jerry's cues play kinda' nice. You gotta watch his quality though. His quality is kinda' shotty. His shafts are kind of soft for me.If you're looking for someone to make a cue for you,go to Bob Dzuricky in ERIE,PA. His cues are better if you ask me! Ask anyone around here, and Bobs' cues are some of the best you can get around here.

Hey thanks for the comment Duke, the pictures I saw of the cue looked great...so we will see the cue in person hopefully here soon as I purchased it already.

His cues hit nicely. good luck with it! His leather wraps are nice too. I just know the guy and am stating my personal opinion. didn't mean to dis-respect his work or your cue. hope all is well

I'll echo duke here shorty.....I had one of his originals, they got better but I know too many people that have had so send them out fo constant repair. I hope you get the good one.

I play with a fellow in league that uses a Rauenzahn. Nice looking cues, but the finish seems to wear quickly. (Maybe it is just how this particular player treats the cue.)

Did you get a Billy Webb butterfly cue? Definitely a diamond in the rough!

No Ted, but I agree. A little out of my price range.

I am curious, what is your price range for an obscure, not well know cuemaker's cue?

I am in the process of buying a cue from an obscure cuemaker. Just wanted to see where I stand.

Depends on the cue...if it is something I really want, then I would go as high as 700-800 perhaps...just really depends on the cue, points, inlays, two shafts or one, ivory ferrules...and if I can hit a ball with it it helps. I buy blind most of the time, but when I do get to hit an obscure cuemakers cue, I give him every compliment I can on his quality and my true opinion of the cue.

Mr. Bill Webb wanted 900 for the particular cue I looked at. I did not get a chance to hit with it before he left the pool room. I saw the quality and the beauty of his cues, which I greatly admire...but again...hard for me to buy that cue blind without hitting with it. I try to buy cues that I will enjoy playing with...to me beauty only goes so far with a cue, the real test is how does it hit whitey. I am a player, not a collector. I am a cue hobbiest, not a collector. I buy and sell because I enjoy it...some times I make a small profit, but most of the time I take a small loss...but to me the fun is in the search.

Rauenzahn makes a NICE cue!

I got my Rauenzahn today...and WOW! This guy makes a quality cue. The vaneers are simply beautiful. Nice color and nice and even points. The ivory windows in the butt are gorgeous. The shafts are a little thick compared to my Predator of course, but they play fantastic. I really like the balance and feel. Very solid cue, but has a good touch for a 5/16-14 jointed cue. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase of his cue. I plan on posting some detailed pictures of the cue soon in the galery.

It's true this cue is very nice looking! I played some pool with Shorty yesturday and got to see his new cues (and show off my new Gilbert). Great point work and fantastic ivory inlays on the Rauenzahn. Everything seemed good quality.
