I've been using Kamui black clear super softs for a number of years now and have always like them. They have been consistent from batch to batch. I recently had three shafts re-tipped with the super softs and each one of them is noticeably harder than the tips on my old shafts. The Kamui's are rated a 67.5 and the Zan soft is 66.3 so you wouldn't think there would be much difference you could notice?? I may try the Zan softs. Anyone who likes and uses soft tipe have an opinion on them, or can suggest something similar?
Thanks.

Guy I shoot with tried a Zan soft. After a few weeks he was telling me how it had hardened up really bad. I shot with his cue and it felt like a med/hard tip. I use Elkmaster and it feels the same softness since it was installed. Which was about 8 months ago. For reference I only play about 10 hours a week.

How have the new tips changed your play?

Or do they just feel/sound different?

Zan Soft is a very popular tip, a smidge harder than a Kamui or G2 Soft, but they hold their shape well.

From my experience, all soft or super soft tips will harden over time. I’ve installed Kamui SS tips that hardened so much I could have used them as break tips. If the tip plays the same over time, I would not change. I’m still looking for that tip!

What are thoughts on the stock predator victory soft tips . As far as getting harder over time ?

I've never cared much for a harder tip as I tend to miscue with them especially when using more extreme english, (which I try to avoid). I have not changed the way I play but the softer tips, giving a softer hit seems to help my confidence in general and I trust them more when using english.

I've probably had about 8 Kamui black/clear super softs installed on various shafts over the last six years or so and all were a bit bouncy when new but in about 90+ days settled into a uniform hardness and never changed. Not only was the hardness very consistent but the sound when contacting the CB was as well.

These new tips I had installed are not bouncy at all and have a noticeably different sound to them. I've got to get more table time on them, hopefully they settle in closer to what I'm used to. Thanks for the reply.

You have to try the Zan Premium Soft, it's a true soft tip. A bit more expensive than the regular soft.

Both the Zan soft and premium soft will mushroom on you 2-3 times in the first few weeks (and require de-mushrooming) before they start better holding their shape, which by that time might as well be Zan mediums.

I’ve had too many Elkmasters marshmallow (my term) on installation. If I make a milk dud out of them, they are just too hard for my taste. I’m using Triangles now. The ones that float work best for me.
I have Elkmaster on one cue and Triangle on another cue. Triangle are great

I have used it and it wasn't my experience. Maybe you hit hard at every shoot idk.

No, just normal play and I don’t break with it. It’s happened on 3–4 different ones I’ve had. I now use the Zan medium. Perhaps you trim yours down much lower than I do.

I thoroughly enjoyed using the Zan Premium Soft when I first bought my Exceed that had a 12.5 tip. In fact I'll give that tip a good portion of the credit for my knee jerk purchase of that cue. I did find that I chased the shape a good amount as it did mushroom a decent amount over a short course of time. I also had it replaced several times over 8months of use. The reality was that tip deserved more credit of the feel of that cue than I originally gave it. Found that the frequent replacements were to maintain that ultra soft hit that I first experience with the cue.

Eventually I came full circle and went back to hard tips when I started playing with a modded wx900 w/ 11.6mm tip. The tip hardness change or the size difference doesn't make a difference in my game. I just prefer not chasing my tail with tip consistency and would rather deal with a harder hit and enjoy my tips exponentially longer.

YMMV
