APA ratings

This is a question for league operators or people who are up to speed with player ratings...
I have been watching a player he is rated a ( 5 ) ..... for the past 8 months he has played in at least 2 APA handicaped tournaments a month. he has won every one but 2, as a 5.... and the other 2 he has placed 2nd. Now he is going outside of his APA area playing as a ( 5 ) and winning. I am sorry but a player that is winning at that % as a 5 should be rated at least a 6 or a 7..... I have only tracked him for 8 months but I think this is upside down. He is taking advantage of this low rating and taken around $1,300.00 and is now qualifing for tournaments that will pay big.... as a 5 he just won $750.00 with 5's, 6's and 7's. I am just curious what the thoughts out in AZ land are...... www.cuetimes.com has all this in print.......

Winning percentage does not factor into a players rating as much as you may think.

It's all about innings.

I assume you're talking about the bracket tournaments at Greenfields and Zoosters...?

Sometimes, if someone's playing well, the TDs there will move them up as far as those tournaments go (obviously not affecting their normal APA handicaps), but it's not very often that happens. I recall a guy earlier in the year, named Phil, who was doing very well in the 4/5 bracket for a while - and finally he was moved up to a 6 for the tournaments. It happens.

Trying to puzzle out who you're talking about, from just the "go to the cuetimes site" link, I'm guessing you're talking about Ron? If so, if he's doing well lately, it's pretty much lately. He rarely got in the money the past couple of years, as I recall.

My friend,
What I am saying this guy has taken advantage of the system the league owner should step in and have this adjusted...... as you can see winning all these tournaments every month there is something wrong..... this is not winning a couple or a few...... this is everyone....... this is a pattern... he is killing everyone at his handicap and is now getting a spot from players that are shooting the same or weaker than he is.... like I said if you look in the archives, go back to Jan 07 and go to present..... this is not luck.... HE SHOULD BE MOVED UP......

Ron has been in cuetimes for 8 months now, this is not by luck...... to many tournaments month after month.... it just seems that at this time he should be moved up and noone has blinked an eye

I guess just notify the league operator. it has more to do with innings/safeties than win percentage from what i've heard. but really, between a 5 and a 7 it should only be a 2 game spot. i'm assuming the wins are break and runs back to back.

You didn't answer any of my questions, so I still can only assume you're talking about the tournaments I mentioned.

Those tournaments are not APA-sanctioned. They just use the handicaps and rules. This guy's handicap (and I'm not gonna go do 30 min of research to try and figure out who) is based on his league performance, 100%. Non-sanctioned tournament results mean ZERO.

If you really have a beef about this guy, talk to the TDs in question and tell them what you think. They're the ones who will (or won't) move said person up.

And like Gregg said, APA handicaps isn't just about winning, it's about innings. Someone can win every match with a ton of innings and not go up.

Edit: Ah, you finally said it was Ron. He's been a 5 for god knows how long...? It's only been about three months since I last saw him shoot, but I wouldn't call him more than a strong 5.

Irunraks,

Thank you very much for bringing this to azb attention. We will dispatch an azb representative immediately and have this corrected. You're right, winning several times in a row must mean he has to be holding back, using the APA as his means of income.

Which night is his league night?

well here is the deal that chaps me....... I went up to that tournament and played i was a current APA player with a rated handicap..... I won 2 tournaments at these 2 bars...... the league owner has kicked me out of the denver area APA and the the bars wont let met play in any tournaments they have.... again 2 tournaments.... I told them they could put me at any rating they wanted I just want to play.... they said NO and that I was banned

I may have been under rated for this area.... but it was the rating the old area gave me..... the area where I played was MUCH stronger...... I told the guys in Colorado to put me at what ever rating they wanted me to play...

Wow. This is absolutely unprecedented. We have an azb rep nearby. Which bar is this?
