What do you do in this situation: You are playing in a bar tournament, everyones back is turned and your opponent is talking to a buddy. You foul a ball just slightly, not moving it from its spot, just a 16th of an inch rub back and forth. If people were over you watching they still might not have noticed. You are playing all fouls.
I without thinking picked up the cueball, handed it too him, and explained to my confused opponent what i did. He then takes his ball in hand, pockets a ball and puts himself about an inch away from my ball shooting away for shape. As hes bridging my ball, he fouls it, strokes again and pockets his ball. I called the foul while he was stroking. Now here is where the question arises. He argues and claims he didn't touch the ball, after i walked up and picked it up. He then goes on to call me dishonest, still claiming he never fouled. Noone was watching again. It was a fairly obvious foul where a ball moved maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch. What do you do here? Give him back ball in hand, shooters call? Or flip out after being honest enough to give up a ball in hand with noone looking. I am also the tournament director. I flipped out, told him there is no way that i would lie, my previous foul should be evidence of that. He still denies it calls me a cheater. I take my ball in hand, still argueing, sink a ball miss shape, miss the next shot, and give him an easy look at a runnout. He screwed it up I finished up. He wouldn't shake my hand. This shit bothered me all night, but i appologized when he left for getting pissed at him and he turned around and ignored me. Is there a better way to handle that situation? I gotta quit playing bar pool.
PS: I placed 4th and was happy. I place 1st about 8 out of 10 weeks, but last night i called the 3 best serious 'A+ - Pro' players in our are and got them to come down. I got the worst, but with these players i was only hoping for 3rd at best. 1 guy was ranked 4th in Canada on the CPBA tour 1 year in the 90's, but he hasn't played in 2 years, and the other guy is the best local shortstop A+ player, Doug Foster.
