on an earlier post, a great discussion, ash vs. maple. i never really thought of this. but hey if davis and fisher, used this, why not?! bludworht, please give us the link to your site, regarding ash shafts. p.s. i believe your the only pool cue maker, useing ash, would that be correct? i know john parris, perhaps the most famous snooker cue maker, uses nothing but ash. isn't also true that 17 oz. for a snooker cue is almost standard? thanks.

A local maker who should be in the 3rd BB of pool cues Greg Sowder from Vancouver, WA made an ash shaft for my friends break cue. They said his pics weren't good enough though so there won't be any pictures.

Ash....?

I have hit many balls with "CUE CRAFT, JOHN PARRIS, and quite a few others...they don't seem to play very good at all! John Parris makes a fine cue BUT...almost all of my snooker friends and aquaintences, like my "YANKEE" cues better.
I have constructed ( not me personally ) a few "ENGLISH" style cues using their mesurements and our quality and woods and they seem far superior when hitting snooker balls. When you play with those brass ferrules, the sound is unbelieveable when you hit the ball even slighty of center...probably why they do not like to use much spin!

A good friend of mine, in Australia, bought a new John Parris cue for about $1500, and after he played with my old "Kersenbrock" ...he liked mine better.

The top players in England, obviously, will play with the best cues available in England...also just try to get a "Yankee" cue maker to make a cue with special dimensions that are different than the ones they want to make.
Took me a long time to get a few constructed.

ash,

I don't have any ash shown. I just make them to oders. $150.00 with standard ferrules and tip.

I must say I love my Parris cue. Bought it for £90 from the man himself (in 1990). All Parris cues I've tried have been very solid, and the service excellent.

But the problem seems to be that you have to pay too much for them in the States.

Love the looks of the ash shaft. Is light (Southern) ash too expensive for US cue makers to use it on pool cues? ...Or is maple really superior?!
