Ash

Why has no one made a performance shaft with a small diameter out of ash wood like a snooker cue has, but designed for pool. It seems like a reasonable idea. Predator uses ash as part of their laminate. Just wondering why? Thoughts experiences other ideas welcomed! Tech is an important part of the development of our game.

One big problem is there will be no trees left.

Not too sure about Predator, but I think that Mezz used it as a core in one of their shafts. I personally hate traditional ash shafts in snooker cues, as the grain is coarse and the cues I've played with weren't sealed well. I imagine a light coat of epoxy sealer would prevent beard hairs on your chin from getting caught, but I just haven't seen it done yet. Also, on a subjective note, ash is less attractive than maple (to me at least).

I think someone on here was using ash that did not have the dirty grain lines. Maybe Larry Vigus? I could see those turning out nicely.

Universal Smartshaft II SP16 or SP16BK (for breaking).
Inner 8 are ash, outer 8 are maple. I'd would love to try one but it's not really available here.

Ash need a bit of filler then sealer to be used for years if you like it silky smooth (which I don't). But maple simply is cheaper, has been used for ages - so everybody is using that.
