hi everyone.
i was wondering how you install the self aligning inserts from atlas.
in the past i have center drilled and drilled to 25/64 for the 7/16 20 hole about 1.250 inches to allow tap to go deep enuff.
now the threaded part is only about 7/16 long then you have the solid part about .450 then the end witch is .493 . i bore a small counter hole for the large end to seat in flush at the very end of the shaft.
now i have been screwing the insert in all the way but it is very hard and tight. am i supposed to bore a 2 stage hole ?, 1 for the 7/16 thread and another for the aligining body ( the middle part at .450)
or am i doing it correct already?

dont laugh to hard .. i have only done 3 or 4 so far...lol

thanks , carl

The self aligning insert you are speaking of has a 7/16-20 thread on it correct? If so drill bore then tap then bore for the barrel. Option 2 bore the hole don't tap then bore larger than for a tap then for the barrel and spin the thead into the unthreaded wood. Then lickem n stick em.
