Attaching leather shields

I wondering what is the best method for attaching the leather shields to the blinds of a drop pocket table. I was thinking of using a couple of narrow crown staples per side of the shield on the outside of the blinds. Any better suggestions?

there's several things you can do depending on your pocket style and aprons. do you have picts of the table and pockets?

Shields

The table looks a lot like 'The Monroe' off of the Classic Billiards site.

I like the velcro idea. I was trying to think of someway of doing it that would be real clean looking. Not that the table is that clean to begin with. ;)

Beautiful!!!

:) WOW!! That is a beautiful table. Can you get some clear close-ups of the pockets/shields you are asking about.:)

Table

Just to clarify, the table in the picture is not mine. That table is for sale at classicbilliards dot net.

I wish my table looked half that good.

The table shown has what are called jumbo shields. they are not designed to tuck in beside the apron. They actually lay across the apron and we usually use a decorative tack to hold in place. You can see the tack in the photo. What model table do you have?

I don't know. The table has absolutely no distinguishing marks, aside from a 5 digit serial number on all the major pieces of wood. Like I said the design looks ALOT like The Monroe in that picture.

I was wondering if I should staple the leather onto the sides of the blinds, where the staples would be less noticeable.

do you already have your pockets? if so look at them, if they have a long tab of leather on the shield, they are designed to tuck in beside the apron.
unfortunately if you have a antique like the monroe, it will not allow you to tuck the leather inside. you can use a jumbo shield like the one shown or a normal shield with no tabs. i have a feeling you have a set of pockets with new style tabs which wont work great.

The sheilds in the above pic are held in by a button/snap,if you do not have them then use a tack like mentioned by scruffy, you can find some decorative ones at lowes or home depot.
