Autograghs by the pros

I just heard about a few of the professional players that were asked for their autographs and they replied them with a price. They actually were going to charge them to sign a piece of paper for them. Players: what the heck are you thinking? I know that without the players, there is no pool....But the fans are the ones that makes pool what it is. For example...say a player plays with Tiger products..(cues, tips, shafts, wraps, etc). Fans are the ones that actually order the Products from Tiger because YOU play with them. THEY help keep the business going, which in return the business can do more for the players. Its a circle thing. You have to stop and think a little, because I know that you players dont pay for none of the cues you play with, tips, cases, and mostly cue repair. Alot of things are gave to you for nothing in return. You are getting too greedy!!! So when a person stops you and asks for a autograph, just remember they are the ones that help feed you too.

AMEN to that!!! I know you, Larry didn't charge for an autograph. The Filipinos are nice too. In the 2005 Carolina Open I took pictures with Parica and Bustamante. Very down to earth people.

Tap, Tap, Tap

I'm not an autograph collector, but I like your attitude.

The only 2 people who i have ever had ask for payment for an autograph were Mike Sigel at the U.S. Open and the other was Steve Mizerak. With Steve, i had asked him for his autograph on a camel cue i believe and he declined stating he gets paid for his signature. Just then, a tourning pro at that time. I can't remember his last name but i believe his 1st name was John and he had a long handlebar moustache. (anybody remember his last name) Anyway, he said out loud Steve, Just sign it for the kid, Camel has already paid you plenty for it anyway. So Steve, sheepishly signed it for me. But i have never had any other players refuse an autograph........................mike

Sigel signed my "Roadrunners" poster last night for free but I havent the slightest doubt that he hit you up for cash when you asked him at the US Open. He seems very full of himself.

Yes i had ewa mataya sign a case and a picture of her plus got a pic with her but that was back in 1993 she was so nice outstanding person. now she was doing an exhibition so i think it's kind of part of the deal but i think she would have done all that anyway super nice girl. The only other was howard vickory he's a great guy. Larry's right poolplayers can't afford to get that big of a head.

autographs for $$$?

I am just a pool fan, but Professional Pool players who charge a fee for their autographs are really full of themselves.....imo......as though the game of pool is at the level of other sports, dollar-wise......

Larry ...

I just want to thank you for coming on the board with your opinions and insights, we appreciate it. I enjoyed watching you play Shwn shown on TV since I had heard a lot about you, and had never had a chance to see you play before then. Youi are a smart player, and have a terrrific break.

IMO, autographs are part of giving back to the sport and its fans. You never know what can inspire the next champion of Pool, and having that autograph or poster or video might be the driving force to make somone a champion player someday. I was a kid during the Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris days, and to have an autograph on one of your heroes meant everything to a kid.

I have a case autographed by the top 10 us open players for 2001.Also i have another case the same way with about 10 driffrent players from the tour in 2002..never have been asked to pay .Might be cause i'm 6' 260 and look like `i don't pay u to write on my stuff. 4 me thats bull to ask someone pay them 4 that..

Many of them Pro's are under contract!!! by sponser's and such... some demand different things of the people they are sponsering........Cant really throw it in their face. I mean dont get me wrong..... It's very silly to have to pay for a autograph......but I mean some of these guys get heat for it..........Jsut think of it that way.... I really highly doubt they would outright for no reason charge you for a autograph........As for Mike Sigel.....I'll pay any good price for his autograph any day..... only cause he's my favorite Pro..... :)

A friend of mine was at an expo a few years ago, and he saw this happen.

One of the vendors had a Hall of Famer sign a cue ball, and then the vendor went back to his booth, and put the cue ball for sale for $50.

The Hall of Famer came by and saw the cue ball, and was pretty mad about it. Some people get a signature for free, and turn right around and sell it. I believe this is what killed getting free auto's.

Thanks for bringing this up Larry and I couldnt agree more. Like having someone ask for an autograph isnt a big enuff rush ,some pros expect payment too???!!! Yes there are people who will try to make money off of pros autographs but is it really any different then people betting on pros and winning large sums of money and then not sharing with that pro? Happens all the time doesn't it?

corey deule, pagulayan, schmidt, varner, wiley, diliberto all signed two shafts for me at the open. corey and pagulayan seemed almost embarassed that someone would ask them for their signature. very humble people.

corey signed one of the shafts and started to walk away and i asked him if he would sign a second shaft and he was thrilled to do so, he even apologized for walking off, he signed it, shook my hand and took the time to conversate with me for about 2-3 minutes. that small conversation made me a fan of his for life and will make me want to go to large tournaments like that more often.

At last yrs super billiard expo I spoke with Gabe Owen for a few minutes and got an autographed pic for my wall, he was a class act. I was turned off by two of the other pros there that were charging for thiers, they never won a us open or anything close. When they asked me to pay for it they lost my money and my respect, it was obvious that they just wanted my money.

Dang who do they think they are? Even the mooovie stars don't charge do they? But for the movie stars or singers or rappers you might have to wait in line for a few days. Or have a backstage pass but poolplayers better respect the fans they have period if they want this game to get to that type of level.

When i read this post i thought back to a couple of years ago when i had just started going to some big tournaments with my dad and we were at derby city and someone walked up to sigel and they were very nice in asking for mr. sigels autograph and he told them $20. I hadnt been around pool much at the time but i had heard of mike sigel and how great he was but when i saw him do this he dropped to the bottom of my list regardless of how well he playED. On the contrary we asked efren for his autograph and he was one of the most humble people that i have ever seen in person when signing the cue ball for us. If all the pros were more like Mr. Nevel and Efren and alot less like sigel this sport would grow alot more than it is now. thanks, ben
