Anyone every tried this? http://www.poweroveryourpain.com/discovering/how? As most of you know I have had back trouble for a long time. Anyway I went to the Pain Management Dr a while back and I was told that as long as I have been on med (28 years) that they did not think they could get one to work for that long anymore. They also told me I need to think about the liver damage the med will do if I continue to take them. They have suggested for me to try the Spinal Cord Stimulation Therapy. http://hcp.controlyourpain.com/ Anyone here ever tried it? I am seriously thinking about giving it a try and am sit up for the trial period in Dec. Right now I am at the point to do anything to have some kind of a life again. What you guys think?

Well i have posted before that i have 3 bulging disks and everyday i stretch my hamstrings and quads, twice a day in fact. My doctor is amazed that i am not in any more pain than i am in. I used to try telling people what to do to help them, but no one listens, they all want operations or pills. They wont put the work in themselves, its "Too Much Trouble", lol.

can you describe your exercise routine. sounds like something I could use. playing pool is a good stretching routine btw

Hello, I also have ha back problems for a while, and i have to say that trigger point injections have been working great for me, along with stretching twice a day!!!! pelvic tilts, table tops, side to sides, drop ins, hamstring stretches, knees to chest. You probably have muscle spasms in your back because the muscles are all super tight. This was ans still is my problem, which can lead to other problems and complications!! Prednizone (?) works well also but can only be taken every couple of months for a short while!!

I would not have any type of surgery until you have tried everything else first, surgery is something that con not be undone and it comes with it's own set of complications!!

Hope you feel better!!!

Words of wisdom right there ! Youre leg muscles are where all the trouble originates from. but try to tell people this and you get looks like you just tried to cop a feel off the statue of liberty! They just dont understand.

Your back is connected and dependant on your legs, make sense ? If your quads and hams are tight, the back muscles fight against them, hence the spasms.

I been through the physical thearpy bullshit, TWICE and saw the surgeon, who to his credit was honest enough to say to me "You have an operation and you may not improve at all or can very well get worse, or you might get some relief" No guarantees whatsoever, i opted to solve things myself and for an idiot, i did all right ! lol

I use three stretches and thats all i use, they are enough. They do the job, anyone who is interested, send me a pm and i will send the youtube links.
Whats the worst that can happen ?:D

Another option you could explore is the Alexander Technique. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_technique

I had chronic back pain for a long time (carried a lumbar pillow everywhere I went) and finally tried this on the recommendation of co-workers. After the first AT session, I stopped using the pillow and have felt a lot better since. I still get pain when I slouch or don't move properly but with AT, I know how to correct the problem and get things working right.

I even had an AT session at a pool table once to get advice on my stance and how to get over the table without pain.

To the OP, my father has had three back surgeries, including a fusion and the most recent, a nerve signal interrupter implanted in his glutes. No MRI's can be done with the unit in place, just in case you have other issues. I have dealt with back issues, herniated L4/5 IIRC, for 14 years, I'm 35 now. To be honest, I couldn't walk more than 6 steps before I was in pain, I needed two canes at one point to move around after my discs where agitated, and I choose to go the holistic route after seeing the BS my dad went through the years with his back.

He loves it, as this is the least amount of pain he has been in in 20 years. I and my father are also medical cannabis patients. While I may not agree with smoking medicine, food made with indica dominant strains can relax muscles amazingly well, hell, the super concentrated Rick Simpson oil is used for extreme nervous issues and epilepsy.

I know there will be some pot brownie jokes, they are funny, but in reality it is an amazingly useful plant that big pharmacy can't replicate. I eat pot food daily to keep my muscles relaxed, otherwise everything would be tight and I'd be hurting.

The one aspect of a bad back that goes unnoticed by most is the mental anguish one feels once they feel the wounded animal syndrome, constantly on the look out to not be perceived as a weak part of the pack(society). Our animalistic instincts show up more when in pain, my humble opinion anyway.

What ever you do, proceed with relative caution. I choose weight lose, healthy lifestyle and core strengthening. Weak cores cause backs to work to much, and then we are where we are. I wish you the best, as I have seen a bad back growing up and was unlucky enough to have my own. Coincidentally, my father and I have the same discs injured. If you have any medical cannabis questions, feel free to pm me.

I use a Backjoy seat in my car that helps with back posture, one if the best 40 bucks I've spent on my back. Recently I realized that I can no longer wear belts and went over to suspenders. WOW! What a difference. One must dress in accordance to the suspenders, but it's great. I actually think it has helped my pool game, as my stance is purer without the hindrance of a belt. If you have back pain, you will understand that last sentence.

Have you ever tried a mobile TENS unit? I have one that I use when my back gets very sore or when I get spasms. The TENS seems pretty effective for me. Also if you find a good spinal Doc the back injections can help a lot. The first series I went thru did not help at all, then about 10 years later I was reffered to a different spinal Doc for more injections, I was very pessamistic but they helped tremendously. The only problem is you can only get them once every 6 months, Im not sure if its hard on your liver or not. I think Ive had a series of 3 injections 6 times now and have not had to get a liver panel for them.

I liked the holistic approach too. I had two surgeries, but am left with a mild ache in an area just below the rear waistline. When I can remember to take my medicine, I'm OKAY.

I like the loss of weight & core strengthening too... that seems to be a great assist to my broken body.

I've had lower back pain for 18 years after herniated a disc snow skiing 18 yrs ago. Also, was told I had spinal stenosis and scoliosis.

Before you do anything read any of Dr Sarno's books. Mind Body Connection, Healing Back Pain, and The Divided Mind. The Divided Mind is his latest. Also, Dr Howard Schubiner's Unlearn Your Pain. I've much improved after applying his method. I no longer see chiropractors or physical therapists.

I work as a physical therapist, and encounter people with the spinal stimulator at times. It definitely has merit, and is a reasonable solution to try if all other means of treatment have failed. Of course I am assuming that you have exhausted other treatment options.

Sarno's books are interesting. I have read "healing Back Pain". It basically suggests that mental anguish manifests as pain. I have treated some people that probably fall into that category, but the majority of the people I see are healed without addressing those issues. None the less, for someone who has unresolved pain, it is probably worth a read.
