" A new tournament is coming
🙂

Very honoured that I am invited to play a tournament with the 8 best balkline players of Europe!
All this in a new exiting format: make as much points as possible in 1 hour. I am very curious!"

Featuring top European players such as Switzerland's Xavier Gretillat (European champion in this discipline), Dutchman Raymund Swertz, Czech Marek Faus, Spaniard Esteve Mata and Belgian Patrick Niessen, the Classic Race Challenge will be played from 26 to 28 March in Kozoom's new studios in Andernos.

The event will be held without spectators to offer the best possible conditions in these COVID era. The CEB committee, with sports director Stefano Malacrita, welcomes the initiative: '''We are delighted to present you this new, revolutionary tournament.'' The ‘Classic Race Challenge' is a first test based on a new system that the CEB is launching and intends to promote. The main goal is to offer new motivation and ambition to fans of the series game, both for the players and spectators. ''New records can be achieved and the brand new format of play promises to be more attractive. It gives us the chance to breathe new life into the classic disciplines.''

The following rules apply to the invitational tournament Classic Race Challenge 47/2:
The ''Classic Race Challenge'' is a test tournament based on a new system that the CEB is proud to launch and promote. The main objective is to provide new motivation for both players and spectators. Records can be achieved. The new game mode promises to be more attractive and gives the CEB the chance to revive classic disciplines.

Rules of the game:

The aim of the game is to score the most points in one hour of play. The player who scores the most points is the winner of the match. At the start of game time, the players in the game start from the starting position and play on until they miss. When a player misses, the referee returns the balls to the starting position. The player goes to his seat and waits a certain number of seconds (called penalty time) from the time he missed. At the end of penalty time the player may start again from the starting position; playing time is not stopped. The above rule also applies in the case of a miss from the starting position. During penalty time the referee may clean the balls. Penalty 47/2: 90 seconds.

The players may ask the referee to clean one or more balls at any time during the match, playing time shall not be stopped. Play shall end for all players at the same time by an audible signal at the end of the allotted time. The final ranking of a game shall be determined by the number of points obtained in the given playing time. In case of a tie, the average score is taken into account, followed by the best results (first, second and so on). If there is still a tie, an additional 10 minutes of play shall be played between the players concerned in the same manner.

The referee counts the points continuously without starting again at each restart. He shall also note the runs. The referee will also ensure that penalty time, general time and the other general rules of the specific discipline are respected (balls in contact, fouls, announcements, etc.). In the case of a foul, the referee shall return the balls to their starting position and the player shall wait for penalty time before starting again.

The referee shall inform the players when half-time is reached, when the last minute of the game is reached and when the last 10 seconds are reached. The first edition of the Classic Race Challenge will be played in the discipline 47/2. On the occasion of the launch of this new type of competition, the best players have been invited based on their ranking at the last European 47/2 Championship (Brandenburg 2019). The players who had to cancel are Spaniards Esteve Mata and Raul Cuenca, Dutchmen Raymund Swertz and Sam van Etten, Swiss Xavier Grétillat and French-Greek Nicolas Gérassimopoulos.

The competitions will be held in the new Kozoom Studios in Andernos (France) with a view to the best professional video production and broadcasting. The studios are equipped with 2 tables and a virtual wall for sponsors.

I watched the match between Pascal Dessaint and Johann Petit. Missing can be brutal as there is the ninety second penalty. I felt bad for Pascal as he missed the break shot a lot early in the match. Johann Petit scored more than 250 points in exactly an hour minus a few penalties. New rules add a little tension. I enjoyed the new format.

Willy Gerimont of france
Willy Gérimont brilliant winner Classic Race

ANDERNOS - The French player Willy Gérimont has brilliantly won the first edition of the Classic Race Challenge, organized in Andernos by the CEB and Kozoom. The first outcome was an all-French final, Willy Gérimont defeating his opponent Johann Petit 277 to 236. Eight players were selected for the test match. The Chartres player finished unbeaten with 4 victories out of 4 games. Gérimont defeated consecutively Louis Edelin, Johann Petit, Patrick Niessen in the semi-final and again Johann Petit in the final. He was the most complete and solid player, was crowned the first, proud winner of the Classic Race Challenge, and received 1500 euro prize money.

The new format was unanimously supported by the players. The live recordings, the images, the ambiance, the live commentary and the interviews were all elements that were brought together to offer a high quality show. The game format revealed unsuspected positive aspects and also areas for improvement.

The matches are more spectacular than watching one player chasing points during high runs without the other player being able to react: two players at the same time at two tables seems much better than one player at one table and the other on his chair.

The highlights of the weekend?

The match between Braham Djoubri and Marek Faus on Friday (322-318), the match between Magali Declunder and Faus on Saturday (averages 53,00 and 157,00 for the Czech), between Djoubri and Niessen on Saturday (232-228) and of course the 4 victories in a row by winner Willy Gérimont.

At the end of the competition, compliments were paid to the technical team (Lorenzo, Morgan and the two Xaviers) for their excellent work, to the four referees Patrick Latapie, Hervé Lacombe, Guillaume Clusel and Eric Camilleri and to the volunteers in the organization, especially Patrick Girard, Eric Dorizon, Bernard Baudoin and Delphine Roumagère!

The 330 points mark was not reached this time, but will undoubtedly be reached soon if this event will be continued. Thanks to the CEB for this new project, thanks to Kozoom for making it happen.

The final ranking:
1 Willy Gérimont, 4 wins, 1129 points, average 47,04, highest run 191, best game 329.
2 Johann Petit 2-1222-20,71-178-274
3 Brahim Djoubri 2-766-23,93-234-322
3 Patrick Niessen 2-980-23,90-142-265
5 Marek Faus 2-803-42,26-165-318
5 Pascal Dessaint 1-560-13,02-102-228
7 Magali Declunder 0-342-19,00-132- 212
