My apologies to the number of people that asked me to continue to post the activities of the visiting pro players here in Bangkok. I had to go over to Rangoon for a couple of days work but here is a recap of nights three and four and a look forward to the big match on Tuesday the 17th.
On Wednesday the 11th there was another doubles match , a race to twenty with Jason Klatt and Darren Appleton against Stewart Pettman and Cocoy Villafuerte. This time the visiting pros carried the day. It was at one point 11 to 10 with Darren and Jason up but then the visitors put it in overdrive and ended up winning 20-12. The surprise in the match for me was the break from Jason Klatt. They used the plastic matt instead of the wooden rack. Jason was tremendous. He consistently spread the balls over the table putting 2 or 3 down at a time. Darren played his usual great game and was outstanding on the safety game.
On the 12th Shane went one on one with Cocoy. Shane wanted to use the wooden rack for the breaks, Cocoy didn’t. They flipped a coin and Shane won so they used the wooden rack. Shane’s break was excellent but so was every part of his game. Shane went on to win 25-10.
On Friday the 13th the match was Darren versus Cocoy. The plastic matt was okay but it didn’t make a difference. The match belonged to Darren. At one point it was 11-11 but then, as in the doubles match two nights before, Darren turned on the afterburners and the final was 25-17. In fairness to Cocoy it was a lot of pressure playing the top guys in the world every night. The nerves were bound to show and they did.
By the way I saw the ten ball break in which Shane put down 7 balls. It was during practice but amazing none the less. it really did happen. Used the wooden rack. This guy spend a lot of time working on his break. it's got to be among the best.
Now we’re waiting for the final matchup on the 17th. It will be Darren against Shane. There is word that Dennis Orcollo will be in town on the 16th on his way to Dubai and a match will be arranged. I’ll cover it if it happens.
