BCA 8-ball legal break question.

The other day I was playing and we asked someone in the room for an adjudication on the following situation.

Break with the cue ball remaining on the table, two object balls down and one off the table.

Rule adjudication from the resident pro was that the breaker shoots and it's a fair break and the object ball that left the table is respotted.

Is there any variation of the BCA rules that allows for this?

I just read the official rules and they suggested that the opponent should shoot next either from where the break left off or from behind the headstring.

World Standardized Rules - Eight-Ball

4.8 Object balls jumped off table on break

If a player jumps an object ball off the table on the break shot, it is a foul and the incoming player has the option of (1) accepting the table in position and shooting, or (2) taking cue ball in hand behind the headstring and shooting.

No variation that I'm aware of, sounds like your resident pro may be a resident nut. :D

However, if the 8-ball is the ball that is jumped off the table during the break, it is a loss of game.

The only thing the resident pro got right was the jumped OB is to be spotted.

4.17 OBJECT BALLS JUMPED OFF THE TABLE
If any object ball is jumped off the table, it is a foul and loss of turn, unless it is the 8-ball, which is a loss of game. Any jumped object balls are not re-spotted.

Yup, so I guess her "resident pro" was wrong about everything!. :D
I know the place steffi shoots at... and its my guess that they haven't read the rulebook since 1997... They don't give printed copies of the rules out or even have an organized "First" meeting of players to indoctrinate new players (of which I was one).
