BCA HOF Voting

Reading Skip Nemecek's letter in the April issue of BD really surprised me. He states that 1500 ballots were sent out and only 225 were returned.

It is really a shame that people supposedly active in the game don't care enough about it to cast a vote for a HOF member.

My friend sent his ballot in and cast it for Ewa becasue she is "drop dead gorgeous". He did see her play one time but has absolutely no idea of her past accomplishments, nor those of the other two candidates. But does admit to saying that Earl has won more tournaments and probably deserved it more.

So I guess I will have to agree with Skip's comment that the HOF is nothing more than a popularity contest.

Dummy me thought there was a small select group of past great players, or sports writers, who cast the votes to select the HOF player.

And of course when there is a vote process where 60% of the people casting votes believe that two candidates are superior to the third but the 60% are split 50-50 as to which one of the two is the best then the 3rd candidate will usually win. 30 - 30 - 40. But I am sure that is not the reason there were three candidates this time and not only 2.

Oh well, I sure do have to admit that Ewa sure is gorgeous. And will continue making a valuable contribution to the world of pool.

Hey Grem,

Mickelson received a $1.17 Million paycheck yesterday.

At least that says that our economy is doing pretty well. The general population has plenty of money for golf, bowling, racing, baseball, football, basketball, hockey, wrestling, soccer, and even jai lai draws a bunch of spectators.

Tells me the people are doing their talking with their pocketbook. Pool is just not a spectator sport. Too long. Too boring. It's fun to play, but not to watch.

The only hope for Professional pool is to change the format entirely. Get gambling by the fans into the picture and come up with a format where the contest is completed in a few hours. Maybe limit the players who can participate and go to a round robin format. Or a ring game such as Grady is promoting.

Might even go with a team concept for the pros and play 9-ball following the APA 9-ball point system. At least that would generate some excitement and hold the interest of the fans. But I really don't see any changes in the near future.

And the women seem to now be beating a dead horse. They had a good run but it is the same people in the finals all the time and people are tired of that.

It was a hard wired no brainer, hugging Ewa is much better than hugging Earl, plus she's got perfume on, that's whats important to industry, sales and your personal agenda. BF
