Alright i just got back from the National Championships and had a great time!
Congratulations to Bob Romano's Pool Team that WON the OPEN TEAM Event!!
They got beaten Hill-Hill in the A-Side final only to come back and win from the B-Side. I didn't get to watch the matches they won, but i bumped into Bob at Kady's later that night and he let me know.
I got to meet a few members from this board.
I was impressed with all of them.
Bob Romano was a great guy, got to talkwith him a fair amount over the week.
Eydie seemed nice as well, although i didn't have a chance to talk to her too much.
Erik was a really nice guy as well even though i only met him briefly.
Mike (AZhousepro) was one of the nicest guys i met there. Got to sweat the end of Tiffany Nelson vs Ewa Lawrance with him.
John Barton was great, the Fury booth was awesome.
Met a bunch of other people from here to, but i didn't get their names or handles.
Some other tiny highlights:
In the Fury room challenges i beat every Pro there, although Kelly Fisher and Val Finney were the only ones that consistently played hard without giving games away. I 3 fouled Bobby 'The Bullet' Weimar not once but twice in the Fury room.
My team placed tied - 25th in the team event earning us $1000, not bad considering there was around 700 teams. When we were playing are match to get from tied for 33rd ($750) to tied for 25th ($1000), we were tied 12-12 in a race to 13, and i had to play the last game. I WON!! that was one of the most exciting things that happened for me. In the singles event I knocked a Master out in the first round on the B-side, his team then went on to get 2nd in the team event. I got 2 real bad rolls in my final 2 shots hill-hill on the B-side. I played position into the same side of the table twice on my last 2 shots and the ball rolled out 6 inches both times.
For gambling action you could catch Richie Geiler playing Bobby Pickle $100 a rack 9-ball on the 7 footers in three different sessions. Bobby won 2 Richie won 1. Bobby pickle was in action most of the time there, i can't remember all the matches, but in the last one i watched he beat some kid from Spain for $1000 in a 10- ahead set. Frankie Hernandez was down there woofing one night, but noone played him anything big, just a coupld short races for $100. I didn't see it, but appharently Bucktooth was down there with $20,000 on a table trying to get the 4 and the 7 for $1000 a game, but noone would play.
Can't think of anything else exciting, but I'm sure I'll think of some more over the next few days. All around, i had the best time of my life down there!
