BCA Vegas report - watching the pros

I had little time to watch the pros. But I suppose when you're there to play yourself, having a lot of free time is not a good thing....

I only watched the two finals.

I was very impressed with Jasmine. She beat, amongst others, Shin Mei Liu, Kelly Fisher, Gerda, and Corr to get to the finals. Watching her and Alison was a real treat. Such beautiful form, and these two basically stayed in line the whole time. A race to seven means little by itself. But I think if you could have seen her demeaner and her composure playing Alison Fisher in a major tournament final with the TV cameras, etc., I think anyone on this forum would have been impressed. I think she has what it takes to be in the Fisher/Corr club.

Watching Archer and Soquet was actually less fun. There were a few more mistakes from the men than from the women.

Overall, imo, a nineball race to seven on a generous table with alternating breaks is a pretty pathetic way to crown a champion in this sport.

Somehow we've made it so the break shot--the stupidest shot in the game--provides more drama than anything else.

Whoa, look! Johnny came up dry. Looks like he's not the champion this year......

Absolutely! They both missed one ball but Johnny came up dry twice on the break. That was the it.

ive never understood this in 9-ball. dont the powers that be realise that playing first to something as low as seven is just plain stupid? Especially for a final! What's the reason behind this anyway, because these short finals seem to happen all the time now. Are they really that desperate for time or something?
