ACS Response to BCAPL
Lucasi Hybrid Cues ACS Nationals: May 7-14, 2011
at the Tropicana Las Vegas
The ACS does not want to engage in any war of words with the BCAPL, whom it fully respects as a well run and attractive league system. Nevertheless, when someone takes a shot at you and all your members the way BCAPL has just done (see BCAPL thread below in green), it’s important to set the record straight.
Was the overlap done on purpose? Of course not. The change was made for all the right reasons. The Riviera was no longer an attractive option in the eyes of the ACS Board of Directors; the Tropicana was the best bet; and those were the only dates available. End of story.
Does the overlap hurt the dual sanctioned ACS/BCA players? Actually it’s the opposite. With the previous 2 week gap between the tourneys, it basically meant 2 trips to Las Vegas to compete in both. Who can afford the time and expense to stay 5 weeks or go twice. Not many. While it is true that there is a partial overlap, the fact is that dual sanctioned ACS/BCA players can now compete in the majority of Events in both tourneys with only a single trip to Las Vegas. That’s better; not worse.
BTW: The ACS may not be as big as the BCAPL, but neither are we nearly as small as claimed. One could consider the false and misleading portrayal of ACS by BCAPL to be completely lacking in grace and very insulting to our membership.
The ACS is very proud of what we stand for and have to offer, The ACS Board is very excited with the location and date change, and we think the membership is too. In addition the ACS offers only a $10/league player annual sanction fee, a free $400 retail value Lucasi Hybrid Cue to all leagues which choose to sanction or dual-sanction with ACS, as well as the Lucasi Hybrid ACS Midwest 8-Ball Championships in January,2011, the 2010-2011 Lucasi Hybrid All American Tour, eligibility for ACS league members to three great CCS events in Canada, fourteen state and regional ACS championships, and highly regarded certification programs for referees and instructors !
See you at The Trop in Vegas, May 7-14, 2011 !
The pool league sport in this country has evolved seasonally to the point that May dates for a league National championships offer the maximum attraction for participation (most pool leagues end in the latter Spring). In the years the ACS National Championships were hosted at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, May dates were not available to ACS, and the Championships were scheduled in June out of necessity – assuring reasonable turn-outs but not the most convenient dates to the majority of our membership.
Moving the 2011 Lucasi Hybrid ACS National Championships to the Tropicana in a more modern and vibrant environment for our players enabled the ACS to schedule May dates. The only dates available at the Tropicana were May 7-14, 2011 and the same week for 2012. Sensitive to minimizing conflicts with other events in Las Vegas, ACS now has the luxury of moving its playing schedule back one day to a Saturday start (May 7) – enabling the team divisions to expand to four days. In the past ACS Championships when team play was scheduled for four days, 98% of the players were eliminated from the Nationals before the final day – which in this case will be May 14, 2011. If ACS members are dual-sanctioned with other national organizations and desire to spend more than one week in Las Vegas competing in various pool events, we would recommend they also enter any competitions (8-ball singles and teams) scheduled from Saturday, May 14 through the remainder of the month – whether it be BCAPL Championships (8-ball singles & teams scheduled May 14-21 at the Riviera) or the VNEA Championships (8-ball singles and teams scheduled for May 28-June 4 at Bally’s). Both are great events.
With date conflicts in the major events at a minimum, ACS members have the perfect dates and a great new location for the ACS Nationals to which to look forward. And no event nationally offers more events in which you may enter!!! If you are from dual-sanctioned leagues (whether BCAPL or VNEA) and wish to stay in town longer, the opportunities for 8-ball singles and teams will still be available in these other events! Complete information for the 2011 Lucasi Hybrid Cues ACS Nationals at the Tropicana Resort & Casino will be posted online shortly, reflecting the following competition schedule:
May 7-8:
9-Ball Singles (daytime)
8-Ball Scotch Doubles (evenings)
May 9-10:
8-Ball Singles (all divisions)
May 11-14:
3-person 9-ball Teams (mornings)
5-person (Mens/Mixed)/4-person (Women) 8-Ball Teams (afternoon & evenings)
[Traditionally the ACS team events have been completed in three days. The expected larger turn-outs for 2011 may necessitate a trickle of play on Saturday, May 14, but we project a minimum of 98% of the entries will have completed all their play before Saturday, May 14.]

Original release initiated by BCAPL
“Dear BCAPL supporter,
NOTICE: The ACS has scheduled their national tournament to overlap the BCAPL championships by four days in May 2011. Please be aware of this date conflict when you make plans for sanctioning or dual sanctioning this fall, and also when you make plans to attend national tournaments next spring.
Here are the dates:
Tournaments Start of Play End of Play
2011 ACS National Championships May 7 (Sat) May 14 (Sat)
2011 BCA Pool League 9-Ball Challenge May 11 (Wed) May 12 (Thu)
PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters* May 11 (Wed) May 15 (Sun)
35th BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships May 13 (Fri) May 21 (Sat)
* Televised professional event for spectators
Here is how the date conflict may affect YOU:
All Referees and Exhibitors– must choose between the BCAPL and ACS events, unless you pull out of the ACS event 4 days early. You simply can’t be in two places at the same time.
Some Players – If you play in the last four days of the ACS nationals (probably the team events), you will not be able to participate in BCAPL Singles Divisions, BCAPL Scotch Doubles Divisions, or in the BCA Pool League 9-Ball Challenge, which attracted more players (248) than any ACS division in 2010. We are concerned that the ACS dates will cause some players to attempt to enter divisions in both tournaments (BCAPL & ACS) … and have to forfeit later due to the conflict. That would be most unfortunate.
THE 35th BCAPL CHAMPIONSHIPS SCHEDULE HAS NOT CHANGED FOR MANY YEARS. IT IS POSTED ON THE EVENT PAGE ON PLAYBCA.COM – CLICK HERE
This decision by ACS is unprecedented. National pool leagues have ALWAYS respected each other’s dates. It is extremely difficult to understand why ACS would put this burden on ANY participants.
This ACS date conflict unfairly discriminates against any league that is impartial, or is loyal to the BCA Pool League – The ACS loyalists who care only about the ACS tournament are completely unaffected by the date conflict in 2011. Only individual Players, League Operators, Referees and Exhibitors who want to attend our event are affected by the conflict, and that is not acceptable.
We hope you will continue to choose “The Greatest Pool Tournament in the World!” The CSI mission statement is “More choices for all players,” and we intend to deliver on that promise to the best of our ability.
If you have any questions, please contact our office at info@playCSIpool.com or (702) 719-7665.

Here is why you should choose the 2011 BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships:
Play with the BEST! – BCAPL has set the standard for amateur and professional events since 2004, and BCAPL has been the amateur league standard since 1978, offering the oldest, largest, most competitive, and most comprehensive championships in the U.S. The BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships will celebrate its 35th annual event at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in May 2011.
You may find this comparison between the national championships interesting:

Singles Division 1,285 entries 128 entries
Singles payout $147,910 $13,955
Scotch Doubles Division 339 couples 82 couples
Scotch Doubles payout $30,815 $8,100
Team Division 672 teams 47 teams

So, what else do you need to know?? Oh yeah, there are some …
Great new Riviera room rate specials for 2011 – The Riviera has agreed to some great room rate reductions for May 2011. They are offering a special 3-tier structure of $60/$70/$80 to reward our loyal BCAPL attendees. All rates allow for up to four people/room, and do not increase on Friday and Saturday nights.
• $60/night x 8 night minimum – Perfect for all Players, Referees, Exhibitors, and others who plan to attend most of the event. This special tournament rate is available until the normal reservations cutoff date (April 12), or until group room nights begin to sell out.
• $70/night, booked by January 31 – A great early bird special for everybody who makes plans by January.
• $80/night, regular rate – For all who make their reservations after January 31.
• Riviera Registered Guests Specials – All rate tiers get the same 3 FREE slot tournaments, food & drink specials, and other restaurant and show specials that were provided this year.
• No “Hotel Room Vouchers” are required by the Riviera – The ACS is adding a $50 to $125 “Hotel Room Voucher” fee to every entry into each division of their 2011 tournament. According to their web site, this money will be refunded only if you stay at the Tropicana during the event.”
